Philip @pbump.com is this in fact something Washpost publicists promoted? That makes it doubly sickening.

I’ve led an easy, privileged life so far. I know smart lawyers and publicists. I can afford to spend some time in jail. These things don’t even make me all that weird on Bluesky.
Everyone has a personal choice to make, and if I burn through a few favors with the lawyers, it’s privilege well spent.

Part of the problem is that publicists are way over worked and way underpaid. A bigger part of the problem is who publishing values and prioritizes. And in YA, the other big problem is new adult cishet romantasy masquerading as YA and crushing everything else in its wake.

I don't always reply to the pitches I receive from publicists (because I have a job that I do and if I did, I would never get to do my job). But here is a tip for aspiring publicists: Critics do not "write a Rotten Tomatoes review." No critics do this.

It’s a rare thing in Los Angeles when a world premiere is just that — a world premiere. Typically, by the time the first scene hits the screen, handfuls (more likely hordes) of people have had first looks including cast, crew, friends, family, media, agents, managers, publicists, etc.

I’m sick of these people saying they “weren’t aware” of this. It’s such a lazy answer and clearly something their publicists told them to say to avoid any sort of ownership. 😒

Also, I don't think a lot of them are very smart or pay attention but they also have seven layers of agents, lawyers and publicists that are there to get ahead of this shit before they actually sound fucking stupid.

True also for books. And given the volume of pitches we all receive from publicists, it’s not expected that critics or editors will respond unless it’s with potential interest. The hard part is that while all professional publicists understand the convention, authors doing their own publicity don’t.
(The most useful type of review-related pitch would be an email with information about the movie and the date it is coming out, a couple months before it's coming out, so I'm aware of it and know if it's in my wheelhouse and also know when it's likely to come up on the calendar.)

True also its pretending that these celebrities dont have publicists whos job it is to avoid celebrities getting bad pr. If celebs are "offline" are they claiming nobody in their career/life didnt warn them? David tennant is famously offline but he doesnt have an issue calling out bigotry and jkr.

Indeed. Maggie Haberman's mother was one of the main Rubenstein publicists handling Epstein, Trump, Kushner...all of whom received years of puff pieces at the NYT. One would think this would be a conflict of interest in hiring her to cover the Trump campaign/presidency, but the interest was coverup.

I've been told twice in the last week that book publicists (in this case scammers) have claimed to have worked with/for me.
They've gone so far as to hand out a fake email for me so that you can "check with me".
So ... watch out. I've not worked with any independent publicists/strategists.

He's currently doing better than (the ceos of websites relevant to this skeet), and doing better than most people and websites with publicists who should be holding them with a firm hand. Hopefully this helps him review and turn volume 2 into something to be proud of in ~5 years.

I wish publicists would communicate with each other so we didn’t have six or seven major films that are only having one screening, but they’re all on the same night, at the same time. It does no one any favors.

my latest pet peeve are canadian cis book publicists telling me (a potential book reviewer, often whom they contacted to start) they won't send me a physical copy of a trans-related book to review, condescendingly ... like, do you think i'm not aware of like, how fucking awful this president is?
