#rc2014
Nope, that us the c64 SID version playing on the Quazar rc2014 Sid card on Sam :)

Great tune on both versions

I have a crescent idea of making a Sharp-like BASIC pocket computer to play around as a working one is practically unobtainable here in Brazil. The RC2014 looks like a good start.

A bit of fault finding on a RC2014 system for another local builder who couldn't get it to work. It turned out to be a couple of dry joints on the SIO board. It was running BASIC by the time I was finished :-)

First routing done.

Full specs of the new kid on the block: The FX64⚡

8Mhz 65C02 (switchable to 4 or 2 so it stands a better chance of working)
4, yes, 4 audio chips with built in MIDI
2 byte video 💪
RC2014 slightly incompatible expansion bus
C64 slightly incompatible keyboard connector

I've some more PCB Pin Badges available (SAM Coupe, Commie 64/16/VIC and new Rubber Keyed Speccy) available: www.samcoupe.com/quickshop.htm

They all help add a few extra quid to the development kitty towards the ongoing projects I've got underway for #SAMCoupe, #ZXSpectrum, #RC2014, #Retrocomputing

Some more community links added on my websites to point to people's projects that are using some of the hardware I've produced.

#8bit gene splicing! #C64 SID on #Z80! In 2003 I released an interface to use the #Commodore64 SID soundchip on the #SAMCoupe, in 2020 I released a similar interface for #RC2014 & compatibles (inc #ZXSpectrum via ZX-RC Bus Interface)

I tried to expand on my #RetroChallenge and build an #RC2014 module that could decode the 8 bits returned from a NES controller using just 74 series logic and a 555 timer.

It didn’t work. I think I have the timing slightly out so some of the logic is triggering too early. I need a dual scope!

Lots of extensible fun for ZX Spectrum here, opening up the world of RC2014 add-ons too.
Some of the #Hardware I make for the #ZXSpectrum came about from suggestions and requests, such as the 2 way expansion connector to connect two peripherals to the edge connector. Also available: ZX-RC2014 Bus Adapter, Int.2 style Flash ROM Cartridge with 2 games, ROM Interface. 🌐 zx.samcoupe.com

The #RetroChallenge may have finished, but I have a bonus post.

The SNES controller is an extended version of the NES controller.

So, I have reworked my #RC2014 NES controller module and Z80 assembly language example code to use the SNES controller.

While the #SAMCoupe is what I focus most of my time developing hardware, software and magazines for I also make #Hardware for #RC2014 and the #ZXSpectrum.

(Did also bring some SAM Coupe fun to other Z80 systems in the meanting with my SAA1099P Soundchip Interface for RC2014 and compatibles, complete with a mini-SAM PCB in the corner! 😆 2014.samcoupe.com)

A lot of 'replacements' for some of the more well known soundchips of old. There's a whole range of #C64 SID replacements based on ST microcontrollers, ARM, FPGA etc all with varying sound quality. I much prefer the originals - I've been interfacing SID chips to Z80 since 2002! 😜

I've not seen anything to suggest there's a silicon clone of the SAA1099P. The surplus channels seem to consist of genuine old stock and salvaged/desoldered parts. I've used many over the years for SAM Coupe repairs as well as my new SAA1099P Soundchip Interface for RC2014/Compatibles/Z80 systems.

Great to see the ZX-RC2014 Bus Interface in use here to use Robert's RC2014 NES Controller module on the ZX Spectrum!

The Bus Interface gives your #ZXSpectrum two #RC2014 expansion slots and with an optional ZX through port too. Info/Purchase at: 2014.samcoupe.com

It's the final day of the #RetroChallenge so I've written about my finished project.

In this post I explain how I was able to connect my RC2014 NES Controller module to a Sinclair ZX Spectrum, and how I hacked the Manic Miner code so I could use my new module.

Soundtracker music for the ZX Spectrum 128K/+2/+3 was amazing! I made an add-on "ZX True Tone (ZXTT)" for Ed Brindley's #RC2014 YM/AY Soundcard to give it the exact same clock frequency as used by the #ZXSpectrum so AY tunes could be played on RC setups and sound perfect.

Are you familiar with RC2014?

Here I am, sitting on an RC2014 kit I've not assembled, intending to build custom DAC modules and a custom Forth kernel, with intent to drive Eurorack synth hardware, and do...

well, not Trace music, but basically exactly this.

No, those are 80-pin RCBus ports, for RC2014-type systems, usually built around the Z80 or derivatives.

Most of my projects never get put in to cases so they are.. kind of finished 😊

I did ponder using edge connectors

But decided to stick close to RC2014 so went for standard pin headers.

I should design a microATX backplane for #RC2014.
