The Part for the Animals just split with another smaller animal rights party mad that the PvdD voted for rearmament after the Ukraine war. Beautiful stuff.

This comes in the aftermath of Russia testing Burevestnik, a nuclear-powered, nuclear-capable cruise missile with 'near-unlimited range'. The surrounding geopolitical developments mark the transition of the world order from the era of nuclear disarmament to nuclear rearmament.

He is right, America and NATO cannot be trusted. No one will defend Europe against Russia or America, we have to do everything ourselves. Do not let the corrupt American military machine into our rearmament!

I am not even joking, the MAD (German military Intelligence service) now apparently "investigates" the case.
They probably want to make an example out of him, to discourage anyone else mocking German rearmament and war preparation efforts.

If Ukraine falls and Putin then after a period of rearmament then invaded Estonia, what then. Sooner or later NATO will be involved and will be conventionally superior.
I'm certainly not advocating intervention but ignoring a possibility will not make it go away.

A clarifying thing about Weimar history for me was finding out Rathenau was actually relatively conservative & surreptitiously for rearmament. But the ppl assassinating him only cared about his ethnicity & the ppl mourning him (rightly, I think) were mostly realizing the worse things to come.

Europe must defend itself. And a unilateral rearmament by Germany is not the answer. Europe must overcome the legal and logistical barriers to create a Europe-wide self defense force.

You cynically have to wonder whether the "ceasefire" is actually just a period of rearmament.

Certainly no desire to craft a permanent just peace has been expressed,

The rest of them are basically MIGA types, and fk that.

It's depressing to see Connolly's view of rearmament as something similar to the 1930s pacifism that was promoted by the Soviet Union, and appalling to see her advocating negotiation between Ukraine and Russia.

It seems nothing has been learnt from the so called "financial & €"and COVID crisis. I wonder how they plan to fund the rearmament of (whole) EU, after they pushed for EU budgetary austerity (Putin's drem) & consecuent unilateral disarmament, and sunk the Mediterranean economies, not yet recovered.
The prospect of issuing new joint debt at a European level to support Ukraine leaves Nordic leaders cold. They insist financing should come from Russian assets as the Commission looks for options to break the deadlock.
