As someone who has a bunch of screws in their shoulder...which was a good bone, I can imagine how badly the repair and reattachment might go in bones that are bad. Especially because there are a ton of other issues in that bone.

Wishing all the best for your daughter! My Pilates instructor’s 9 y/o son was bitten 2 weeks ago. His lip. One (reattachment) surgery and more surgeries expected in the future. She said his happy disposition has never wavered. Children are amazing.

hard to see in this photo but the thumb looks better from 8/26 a lot of reattachment on the left side, which like on the right side of the left hand, was almost detached down to the cuticle, and it has reattached more over the few weeks. Overall the nail beds are taking on more of a rounded shape.

the free edge is much longer from 8/26 but the nail bed itself is reattaching, like the pinky looks better, the ring finger getting more of a rounded shape from side to center reattachment, thumb is biggest improvement both sides almost equal now right side of thumb was very detached in may

so there is a certain level of family psych, and/or cultural indifference involved even in things considered large, like loss/reattachment of fingers as a normalized process. so maybe that's partly american, and partly the rarity of machinists in career + distinct family recollections from young age
