#reenactor
Last year a good friend passed away. He was a Viking reenactor. There is a very famous photo of him, often used as source material for tattoos and motorbike tank paintwork. I keep encountering it randomly online and it always brings me up short, but it’s definitely an unusual type of immortality

With love. I didn't think anything about how you were wearing the dress. I was just reliving my reenactor GFs comments from every historical film where they wore grand dresses and they didn't learn how to move "like a lady" per the etiquette guides. She had that rant during so many movie nights. 😂

My new goal in life is to retire early so I can volunteer as a historical reenactor at the local living history museum. I visited yesterday and talked to the lady who was cooking in the 1840s period kitchen and realized that this could be my future

Speaking as a historical reenactor, who heavily researches this topic, that director was an idiot even if you ignore the sci fi silliness.

Plenty of women would dress as men, train in sword fighting and be soldiers. There's a lot of evidence of women participating in medieval battles in disguise.

It was long before Sandy Hook. A friend of mine used to be a civil war reenactor. They were all urged to name their guns and treat them as their children. Better than their own flesh and blood.

Please enjoy my new handheld distaff, carved by a fellow Viking age reenactor and friend 😍

for a sec I was like damn the Central Ohio reenactor gene persists but then I realized they (probably?) didn't wear chain mail in the Civil War

Author, historian, & reenactor Andrew Lucas comes on to discuss his collaborative work with Jürgen Schmieschek on the Saxon Germans on the Flanders front during the Great War.

Fascinating & fun talk with Andi! As you will see, he is an absolute treasure of knowledge about his beloved subject.

About 15 years later I was at a gas station, pumping gas. A car pulled up to the next pump and a young man in a Nazi officer uniform, complete with arm band, got out. He started pumping gas.

My brain tried to make it so many things. He’s an actor who got in costume at home. He’s a WWII reenactor.

Reenactor habits seeping into video games: I was heading straight for the set dressing militia guys practicing their archery, and I veered away from the range without even thinking as soon as I realised 😅

As a Napoleonic reenactor I usually ask the Redcoats one question

Liberty, Equality, Fraternity

To which of those do you object?

Vi kollade på en youtubevideo från Battle of Wisby igår, en tysk reenactor som laddat upp. Av oklar anledning så var videon dubbad med en AI-röst vilket ledde till stor humor. AI är verkligen sämst??

And for the record, I'm fairly well-versed in Civil War history given that my Dad was a Civil War reenactor and I've been studying this stuff since I was *Learning* to read.

I find the seemingly standard public education/reenactor phrase, "every Roman soldier was a [combat] engineer" more than a bit frustrating.

Every Roman soldier could be a *laborer.* The legions also had much higher status specialist engineers, the praefectus fabrum or architectus.

Different jobs!

He is a War On Drugs reenactor

The texts we have from them at least have their *intentions* inscribed, whereas AI provides free-floating interpretation without even a human subject (say, a human reenactor) to make their own interventions and sensitivity adjustments.

this was george washington's size 300 years ago and everyone talked about him like he was the biggest person on the face of the earth so maybe he's a historical reenactor.
“Big guy: 6-1, 202 pounds”

the only other time i’ve been excited to see a piece of media created by the South Park boys was when I was a Theatre Kid who knew nearly all of Josh Gad’s lines by heart

to put it in 2013 terms, my body is so ready

You're bringing the amount of money that AIPAC has donated to Mills as a detrimental thing (which is fair), but at the same time you are here shrugging at the notion that Platner has a step-brother directly working for Israel.
One that is very close to him and influences his opinions.
