Maybe hot take but I think roguelikes are so popular among indies bc they're easier to make.
The more the player runs through the same areas/enemies the fewer of them you have to design as opposed to like, an RPG.
Not saying it's bad, I just don't think amount of games reflects player preferences.

if you have adhd, lack of executive function may make it hard to keep yourself organized, keep up with the people u love, or even just make it hard to sleep normally. luckily, there’s help: with just one pill, you can instead play roguelikes for 14 straight hours while rubbing urself unable to cum

Made it to the end of the demo and man I love this, Im usually not one for roguelikes but this one really stuck with me. The world, these characters, the battle system, and by God the music. Im looking forward to seeing where this all leads too.

So the most consistently highly rated aspect of gameplay in polls when asked what players value is playtime/replayability. Valid or not many people do the hours played / price = value kind of math. Roguelikes by design have a lot of replayability.
