#rollfilm
yeah! i was just going to go with 120 rollfilm since that seems like a doable starting point. it does seem a bit daunting but i am giving it a shot anyway, it'll be pretty simple though

Has it all been rollfilm or have you done any larger formats?

I hadn't thought about this earlier, but actually neither the Voigtländers nor the Icarette (my oldest rollfilm folders) have any kind of pressure plates, while all my other folder cameras do. Maybe the idea of a 'pressure plate' was just starting to emerge in the very early 30s?

I successfully converted my grandfathers 800 to instax wide! 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

But DIY rollfilm is also a good option! 😂

You're correct. Not just large-format cameras, but basically all folder cameras used the rails system until the 30s. These early 30s Voigtländers were probably the last rollfilm cameras to stick with the old system; e.g. contemporary Zeiss Icons were already using the cantilever system.

Das ist eine 4*5" Kamera. Sie kann sowohl einen (nicht mehr verfügbaren) 12 cm breiten Rollfilm oder Kassetten.

my favorite thing about rollfilm is how each one comes with a little hair roller inside

Intrepid Camera has a new multiformat 120 back available that'll let you shoot any standard format from 6x4.5 to 6x12. Also, you get to assemble it yourself from a bunch of colourful bits. Worth a look if you want a rollfilm option for your 4x5 camera.

but in many ways a view camera is the most versatile system if you aren’t doing moving subjects. when I quit shooting film the one thing I kept to be able to use again was my view camera stuff. same at work. we got rid of the rollfilm cameras and kept view cameras. there are things that you can

Was also considering that. The Fuji is probably heavier anyway? And I can also do 6x12 and whatnot.

I just picked up a Super-Angulon 90mm f/5.6 today too; that would be a perfect focal length for a 6x9 or 6x12 rollfilm back.
