#sandbaggers
One of these days I'll be able to watch a spy thriller at home without reaching for a bottle of whisky but tonight's not the night. The Sandbaggers series 3 with a Jack Daniels Blackberry and Lemonade. Happy Sunday!

50. The Sandbaggers. The Americans’ weird, creepy, fucked up, made-for-twenty-pounds-an-episode grandpa.

As returns from Slow Horses continue to diminish, can I interest anyone in Spy Trap?

A BBC series from 1972-75, about a counter espionage outfit that goes only by 'The Department', it plays like an even less action-packed version of The Sandbaggers (complementary)

If you have not heard of The Sandbaggers, I cannot recommend it highly enough. An intense and inside view of the life of spies during the cold war, written by a naval officer who died or disappeared mysteriously and may have been an agent himself~

The yearly rewatch of Sandbaggers has begun. This year it is sweetening my first reads of Mick Herron's Slough House novels. I watched the TV series earlier this year. This means that after Pendragon, it will be time for choice selections from my spy RPGs @gobagpod.com

Re-watched 'The Sandbaggers' "A Proper Function Of Government". An early episode that pretty much sums up what made that show so very, very out-fucking-standing. A series of intelligent, sharp and terse conversations in offices that are more exciting and compelling than most action movies.

I love Sandbaggers for many reasons but perhaps my favourite thing about it is the way parts of Yorkshire stand in for various exotic settings. Harrogate is Vienna. York University is Warsaw. Leeds University is an American city. Ilkley Moor is Cyprus.

The Sandbaggers (if Mackintosh could’ve delayed defecting for a year).
If you could get just one more season of any cancelled show, which would you pick?

God bless Yorkshire Television. In the last 3 episodes of The Sandbaggers that I’ve watched, they’ve had the cast iron balls to have Leeds double for Austria, Paris and best of all, Gibraltar…in what looks like February.

Some of the old British TV series from the 1970s have fantastic storylines and acting (just don't expect the same production values as today).
I Claudius (Roman epic), The Sandbaggers (outstanding cold war spy series), Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (Alec Guinness spy drama)

i don't know anything about Norwegian intelligence capabilities but this pilot for "Sandbaggers" suggests they were just ramping up in the '70s
Sandbaggers is my favorite 1970s British TV spy series cut short after its writer/creator disappeared mysteriously in a plane over Alaska

Finished re-reading @gregrucka.com “A Gentleman’s Game”. While the book ending hits me like the finale episode of Sandbaggers, at least I have some more Q&C to re-read for now 🤣

Remembering actor Richard Vernon who would have been celebrating his 100th birthday today.

Famous for Yes (Prime) Minister, The Sandbaggers and Nanny.

To many Hitchhiker's fans, he will always be remembered as Slartibartfast.

Vernon passed away in 1997 at the age of 72.
