#screwworm
I just knew he was going to bring up screwworm and blame it on immigrants and imported meat. What a low life. Climate change is making screwworm expands its territory. Idk if its preventative measures have dropped or the current efforts need to increase. But we know this admin doesn’t care.

That we keep the screwworm at bay is a huge public health achievement. If we are having issues with screwworms it’s because we have cut the public health officials that maintain these efforts.

New World screwworm in Mexican cattle is the main reason Australian beef exports to the US are booming, and the probable reason the yards here on a property in Central Queensland were packed with turn-off cattle last week.

The US, down on others' biosecurity, has banned import of Mexican cattle.
Bessent is a huge owner of ag land (not, as he's claimed, a farmer). Screwworm is likely getting worse b/c of climate change not immigrants.
If this clip doesn't make you think we need to reform taxation for ag land + millionaires & address climate change, more screwworm infestations will be coming.

Screwworm maggot morons.
November 17, 2025 at 5:35 AM
I have not seen enough discussion on Bluesky of this insane clip where Scott Bessent claims that migrants are bringing their cattle into the US with them and it’s infecting US cattle with screwworm.

There really is a problem with cattle smuggling that's spreading screwworm north of its previous eradication zone (the border between Panama and Colombia), and probably some of those people are undocumented migrants, but the number getting into the US - as opposed to further south - has to be tiny.

He’s blaming the beef issue on immigrants— that brought the
screwworm with them from Mexico.
So they switched to Argentina &
gave the country $20 Billion.

What about Our cattle farmers??
November 17, 2025 at 3:58 AM
They are going to bring in cows from Argentina, where there has been an outbreak of hoof & mouth disease. They are getting in front of that story by blaming it preemptively on immigrants. Probably also applies to Mexican cattle and screwworm.

Gee, I wonder why we didn't eliminate screwworm like the FDA was working on
November 17, 2025 at 3:24 AM
Climate change is creating more favorable conditions for the screwworm moving north. Apparently it’s a real problem here in the Philippines too.
November 17, 2025 at 3:05 AM
Scott, ever moved cattle?

I have.

South American Immigrants bringing infected cattle w them is ignorance of the highest level.

We have now & previously had & will have again, screwworm outbreaks in beef cattle.

Happens without immigrant cattle.

Calling you out for spreading this bull crap.

It’s about more inspections for the screwworm, but of course the GOP has to turn it into a they’re eating the dogs they’re eating the cats thing.

Trump secretary blames South Americans for rising meat prices
United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said this Sunday (16) that one of the reasons for the rise in the price of beef in the country is that immigrants from South America brought cattle to Mexico with the screwworm fly, a fly larva that parasitizes warm-blooded animals. "The beef market is very specialized and operates in long cycles. This is the perfect storm, I say again, something we inherited ”, said Bessent, in an interview with Fox News.

Portrait of New World Screwworm
November 17, 2025 at 1:16 AM
The reason US Beef is so expensive is that the current administration allowed DOGE to end the program that was effectively keeping a particularly nasty screwworm fly from moving into North America. US Cattlemen are spending much more to keep their herds uninfected.

Although Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins did suspend Mexican cattle imports to the United States due to screwworm concerns, there is virtually no credible info that suggests that South American immigrants have been transporting cattle across the southern border.

He could've just stuck with facts: screwworm coming from Mexican cattle
November 17, 2025 at 12:14 AM
Is bringing in the "screwworm" also a part of the great replacement theory?
November 17, 2025 at 12:00 AM
The USDA fired a ton of veterinarians, gutted APHIS, and quit testing cattle for New World Screwworm. Just bc you don't test for something doesn't mean it's not there.
November 16, 2025 at 10:37 PM
Don't forget the screwworm crisis in Latin America where a ton of beef is sourced from. A decrease in global supply will cause an increase in global prices.
November 16, 2025 at 10:27 PM
No confirmed reports
There have been no confirmed reports of screw worms killing cattle in the USA. The New World Screwworm, which is a fly, was eradicated from the U.S. in the 1960s and has not been detected in U.S. livestock since then. The recent movement northward from Panama has raised concerns
November 16, 2025 at 9:58 PM
the screwworm is heading here on its own, just wait till it starts hitting US cattle, prices will skyrocket
Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent said the reason beef prices are so high is because immigrants from South America are bringing their cattle with them as they come here and they are infected with diseases.

How do they train the cows to climb the border wall?😅
