This impromptu snow melt gutter bird bath party has brought childlike joy to my face today. ☺️Sound all the way up to hear the cacophony of different songs. We still have tons of seedheads for them too so wine & dine, feathery friends!

Love-in-a-mist
Love-in-a-mist, such as a Nigella damascena 'Miss Jekyll', is a cottage garden favourite. It gives an airy feel to a flower arrangement, and its dried seedheads look attractive, too.

Leaving plants up over the winter not only provide food for #birds and habitat for all kinds of #wildlife. It creates beautiful moments like these seedheads against the snow from our walk last weekend.

Leaving the seedheads of native plants is crucial to our native overwintering songbirds. Planting native plants only to cut them down in fall defeats the purpose.

Thank you Christchurch City Council for planting wildflowers in our parks. My local park is mostly a barren wasteland of closely-mown playing fields but there are two patches of absolute joy. The bees love them, the butterflies love them, and I love them 😍

My mental health declined pretty badly last wk but some of you asked for more photos like the hunt-the-tiny-owl one I made & I wanted to try to make an advent calendar so:some lovely things that fell off trees & this time a tiny deer stag to find.
Do let me know if you enjoy this & I'll make more 🦌

Really lovely to chat this morning - I ended up going for a surprisingly long walk at Ainsdale, with the joy of Parnassia and Oenanthe lachenalii seedheads in the dune slacks

Deschampsia cespitosa 'Schottland' is one of the taller and stronger stemmed forms. The skeletons of the seedheads should stand most of the winter unless the weather gets really bad.
