While Harry Partch would definitely be a microtonalist, he has some admirably cranky takes in Genesis of a Music, like the assertion that music really started going to hell with Bach:

Forest fires.

Someone worked out that the Californian Redwood (Sequioa Sempervirens) is only capable of seeding after a forest fire has cleared the undergrowth.
How did Nature get along before we started raking??

Old growth is such a blessing 😍 I miss my Sequoia sempervirens, and the bristlecone pines 💚

Here’s my illustration of South Carolina’s lovely state flower Yellow Jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens). These sweetly scented bright blossoms are the state flower of South Carolina & are embossed on the state quarter. Jessamine is an evergreen vine.

Marriage Equality – South Carolina
South Carolina - "While I breathe, I hope." Nov. 19, 2014 - Wow. Congratulations. Two in one day. First Montana and now South Carolina have recognized marriage equality statewide. This is such wonderful news for the people of South Carolina and their families. I've included my illustration of South Carolina's lovely state flower Yellow Jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens). I drew the rainbow bands according to elevation ranging from the Up Country in pink, red and orange; to the Midlands in yellow and green; to the Low Country in cyan, blue and violet.

As we embrace the cosy season, treat yourself or a loved one with our Naturae candle.

Mixing cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) & sweet orange (Citrus × sinensis), the fresh scent celebrates nature, combined with the earthiness of our library.

Plant of the week 🌱
On the arch going into the Naturalist's garden is the coral honeysuckle Lonicera sempervirens. It's still flowering due to the mild weather.

We're halfway November but there were plenty of flowers on this calcareous grassland 👀🌸 I guess the extreme drought this summer and spring messed with the plant's phenology... 🌍

It is. Seems like it is always first to start greening up in Spring and last to finish though it does attract waaaaayyy more pressure from aphids than red Lonicera sempervirens we grow. But birds like to get in the obelisk and eat them and it marches on without us having to intervene.
