$100 per servicemember ought to cover it.

On the one hand, this is insane. In an innumerate culture enough people will think this grift is actually one of Trump’s good deals.
On the other hand, let these fools go broke trying to “donate” at the level of state spending. This is barely a nickel.

But, when a servicemember is accused of breaking the Code, they are brought before a military court to face and dispute the accusations.
The final decisions in those courts are made by senior JAG Corps officers, and of those officers are political appointees, they may well ignore the Code.

Sounds more like bribery, or extortion, or something illegal or unconstitutional. Is that money being put through the treasury? Will it show as a deposit? Then, as being sent out to each individual servicemember? There needs to be an investigation on this, sounds like total bullshit to me.

What gets lost in how corrupt this is, is the staggering scale of the US Gov't.
Dude gives A HUGE amount of money to "pay the troops" but there are 1.3 Million active duty troops. So, his $130 Million is $100 per person.
It would cost $2.6 BILLION to give each servicemember a single $2000 check.

A generous rich person (probably a billionaire) has offered to pay $130 mil to cover the salaries of all US military during the shutdown. Interesting figure. Let's see… $130M ÷ 1.3M active duty personnel = a whopping $100 per servicemember for October!!

Questioning the patriotism of those who’ve risked their lives for this country is beyond the pale.

So they’re just kids who talk shot about gas chambers and burning Democrats, but if a servicemember doesn’t think CKirk was a great guy and happens to mention it in a private FB post, they lose their jobs and benefits.
Again, these are not good faith arguments.

It sure feels weird seeing a DFAS paycheck hit my bank account during a government shutdown and I know the only reason it's there is an from an illegal use by the DoD which was originally appropriated by Congress for Pentagon R&D and NOT servicemember pay.

Speaker Mike Johnson told House Republicans on a private call that he doesn’t plan to put a standalone bill to pay troops up for a vote before they miss paychecks Oct. 15, arguing the Senate would kill the measure while Dems also block an already-passed stopgap bill that includes servicemember pay.
Pressuring Democrats, Johnson rules out standalone troop pay bill
The speaker told GOP lawmakers on a Thursday call that the House has already done its job.

Remember your oath.
Your duty is to the U.S. Constitution, not to a man.
That duty will be tested.
And when it is, you must decide:
Are you a servicemember who stands with honor, integrity, and country or an amoral mercenary, carrying out the whims of a tyrant?

I've always hated the term. I'm a professional. If someone wants a term more generic than "Marine," I prefer "servicemember" or "war fighter."
