The agency said the train experienced a "series of unexpected jolting movements" while navigating a curve at an "excessive speed" of 50 mph while exiting the Sunset Tunnel near Duboce Park.Muni light rail trains typically travel at a speed of 8 to 10 mph, according to SFMTA.

I happened to take this very train last night on my commute back home. I immediately reached out to SFMTA to see if they had any footage for me to edit together, and we made it happen! Bye bye Breda 🫶, you were the OG Muni train I remembered when I first came to San Francisco as a little person.
SFMTA's Breda light-rail vehicles were officially retired Wednesday, Nov. 12, after more than three decades in service. Introduced during the 1990s dot-com boom, the Breda fleet became a Muni staple, logging more than 10 million passenger trips across the city.

🚦 NEW, NOT SO FAST: A Bayview project was uncontroversial — until it went up for a vote and three people said SFMTA hadn't done enough outreach. Now it's been delayed indefinitely, and it's unclear how that will affect funding. @unazurda.bsky.social reports. thefrisc.com/bayview-stre...
Bayview Street Safety Project Delayed By 3 Complaints, Minutes Before a Vote
Calls for more outreach surprised SFMTA officials, but they shelved the plan’s approval for now. Will it jeopardize future funding?

SFMTA has completed a weeks-long investigation that found no mechanical failures in the train or infrastructure, and concluded the train jostled because of operator error.

For SFMTA to receive a dedicated bus lane on Van Ness required covering the massive cost and years of effort to rebuild all the unrelated underground utilities

For Waymo to receive a dedicate lane on Van Ness, nothing is required
A Waymo robot apparently disobeyed SFPD, forcing PD to block the failed robot while everyone went around:

Waymo does not have to report these incidents to any regulator.

Don’t fucking touch SFMTA.
SPUR, an urbanist think tank, today released a report with 10 recommendations for City Hall to reform its 548-page charter.

The report sets the stage for Mayor Daniel Lurie and Board President Rafael Mandelman’s November 2026 charter reform measure.

Solaris will supply the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) with six battery-electric coaches (three 12-metre and three 18-metre articulated vehicles). This is Solaris's second US contract, supporting its North American expansion and SFMTA’s reliability goals.

Our streets are getting safer! This morning, I had the honor of cutting the ribbon on a new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) at the Fulton St. and Clayton St. intersection as part of a citywide effort led by SFMTA and funded by SFCTA to install these beacons across the city.

SFMTA bus stops signs are comically bad. I lived there for five years, was literally an SFMTA employee and routinely got confused by them. And you can park a car in a lot of the stops!

Under no circumstances should BoS confirmation of SFMTA board members be removed. This is a crucial element of Muni reform that enables SFMTA to think independently. Vote NO on this un-reform just like all the others.
In case folks missed it, a story about SF planning to axe its Bike Advisory Committee.

The task force also proposes removing confirmation for mayoral appointments (which is all appointments) to the transportation board. This would remove one of the few checks on a bike-hostile mayor - which we have

Any thoughts on whether SB 79 allows BART/SFMTA/LA Metro/MTS to become self-sufficient through LVT/land leases?

SFMTA represented it as a "cost savings" not to build a podium (thus making housing above the yard impossible). But it isn't a savings when we don't get the 350 units of needed affordable housing. Siloed thinking - and likely laundering Lurie's lack of interest in funding the housing
I'm at the SFMTA board meeting. A few highlights from Director of Transportation Julie Kirschbaum's report:

-the Potrero Yard Modernization Project has drastically changed with no housing units above the the new bus yard due given construction costs, interest rates, volatility of market.

Just heard officially from SFMTA staff that Lurie is *not* seeking to restore the Market Street bus service he cut in June—a supposedly temporary cost savings.

Not too surprising, but still not something we should accept. Restore the 5, 6, 9, 21 and 31!
