#shutdowns
if you want a vision of the future, imagine 3-month CRs with 40 day shutdowns, forever
I know everyone is upset about the deal, but don’t worry. We’ll be doing this again in a month.

The two longest government shutdowns in U.S. history both happened under Trump.
November 11, 2025 at 3:22 AM
There were no government shutdowns when Joe Biden was President.

The orange felon now owns the first and second longest government shutdowns in US history because he doesn’t give a single flying fuck whether or not people suffer or starve or lose everything or die.

regardless of your feelings on shutdowns as a tactic. This is just bad practice to say out loud

“… it actually gave him more power”: oh, awesome. Just co-sign the Russ Vought argument that shutdowns grant presidents carte blanche to shift spending and RIF workers while you bravely give up, why don’t you.

Reductions in Force not required by shutdowns, have never happened in any previous shutdown, and a judge has ruled they are illegal.
The shutdown is an excuse, not a reason, for them to do what they wanted to do: destroy government.
Lee Zeldin announces on Fox that there will be "severe" layoffs at the EPA if the shutdown continues

"If I were in the Senate, I wouldn’t vote for this compromise. Shutdowns are an opportunity to make your arguments, and the country was just starting to pay attention... I worry that Democrats have just taught Trump that they will fold under pressure."

The thing about government shutdowns is that they're manufactured things that never need to happen.

They're bullshit that adversely affects the lives of normal people because politicians love posturing.
November 10, 2025 at 12:51 AM
Like there was always going to be some kind of cave to end the shutdown because that's how shutdowns always end, but Democrats should be expected to support Democratic primary winners.

My child asked for “airplane spoon” during dinner and I had to explain that we simply don’t have enough air traffic controllers. Shutdowns have consequences.

Yes. No pay for them during shutdowns. No health care. No pensions. I’m sick of their shit.
November 10, 2025 at 3:05 AM
shutdowns have to end at some point. they can't go on forever.

Ds seem to have gotten diddly squat though.

which seems like it's on schumer.

For future govt shutdowns law needs to be enacted that no U.S. congresspeople or senators like this blowhole get paid

Reminder:

3 of the 8 Democrats who crossed the aisle get major funding from airlines and/or big resorts, i.e., tourism that would be fucked by the airline shutdowns.

Corps called in their favors and pulled the leash.

shutdowns becoming to bsky what covid lockdowns were in 2020-2021.

Regular shutdowns that go 2-3 paychecks until January 2027 seems very possible

1. One of the reasons I believe I have some insight into the political dynamics of government shutdowns is that I had a front-row seat as the head staffer for internal communications and legislative analysis for the House GOP during the first government shutdowns in 1995. I sat at all the meetings.

SNAP benefits weren’t stopped by the shutdown, they were stopped by Trump’s lawbreaking.

Under US law there is a dedicated SNAP fund for shutdowns, Trump refused to spend it, lost in court, defied the court order, took the issue to the Supreme Court.

And guess what? He’s still pursuing that case.

Government shutdowns suck. Healthcare premiums doubling for millions of people sucks even more. That’s why we needed no caving on this

“Short-lived shutdowns are usually invisible in the data, but this one will leave a lasting mark,” Gregory Daco, chief economist at accounting giant EY said, “both because of its record length and the growing disruptions to welfare programs and travel.” https://to.pbs.org/49f4NIa
The government shutdown will impact an already-struggling economy, from lost paychecks to canceled flights
The Congressional Budget Office estimated that about $11 billion in economic activity will be permanently lost from a six-week shutdown.
