Chateau de Pibarnon Bandol Rosé 2022, Provence, France Light orange in color. Light nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with nice complexity. Showing raspberries, strawberries, currants, lemons, peaches, spices, sea salt and light earth. Tangy finish with grapefruits and limes. This is a young Rosé from Bandol. Spicy and fruit forward. Elegant with a soft mouthfeel. Nicely balanced and already showing nice complexity. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Good right out of the bottle and good by itself as a sipping wine. A blend of 70% Mourvedre and 30% Cinsault from 45 year old vines. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $40.

Chateau La Fleur Ferrand Cuvée Réservée Pomerol 2017, Bordeaux, France It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back! Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Fruity nose of red fruits with light wood, spices, coffee, earth, dark chocolates and tobacco. Medium plus in body and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cherries, spices, light oak, licorice, chocolates, coffee, light earth and herbs. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This 8 year old Merlot from Pomerol is showing a very fresh nose, but starting to show age on the palate. Might be just this specific bottle, though. Rich and fruit forward. Complex and interesting. Plush and creamy. Good by itself as a sipping wine and would pair nicely with food too. 100% Merlot grapes were aged for 12 months in (100% new) French Oak barrels. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $95.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and fruit forward on the palate with black currants, black plums, blackberries, light cedar, herbs, spices, chocolates, cinnamon, tobacco, light vanilla and black pepper. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Rich and fruit forward. Elegant and entertaining. Spicy and easy drinking right out of the bottle, and better after 90 minutes of airtime. Nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel. Complex and interesting. Will continue to age nicely in the next 7 to 10 years. I've had a few vintages of this wine and it is very consistent. A great sipping wine, and good for parties too. A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $68.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is very tasty Merlot from Saint Emilion. Complex and rich. Nicely balanced, fruit forward and elegant. This 5 year old Merlot based blend is still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, but already drinking nicely. Interesting enough to drink as a sipping wine, or with food. This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa valley. Elegant and easy drinking. Fruit forward and complex. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours of airtime. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. I've had a few vintages of this wine and it is very consistent. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. A blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Aged in (30% new) French oak barrels for 24 months. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $40.

Needs time to open up properly, so be patient. Fruit forward and spicy. Still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. This 5 year old Barolo is young and elegant. Showing nice balance with good structure. Has enough acidity to last it for a while. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 7 years. Easy drinking and better with food. 100% Nebbiolo grapes were aged for 18 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. 14% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $45.

Very dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, licorice, light vanilla, tobacco, dark chocolates, green vegetables, light earth, herbs and black tea. Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is a very tasty 9 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Lake County in California. Fruit forward and spicy. Good right out of the bottle, and gets earthier and spicier as it opens up. I had this vintage 5 years ago and it is drinking so much better now. Will not improve from this point on, so drink up. Easy drinking and good by itself or with food. Kosher and Mevushal. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $50 (current vintage).

Fruity nose of red and blue fruits with red candy, light wood, spices, chocolates and black pepper. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with red currants, red cherries, light oak, peppercorn, light wood, spices, coffee, dark chocolates, earth, light vegetables and tobacco leaf. Short finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries. This is an easy drinking Zinfandel from Russian River Valley. Fruit forward with nice complexity. Nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel. Earthy, with lots of red fruits, and surprisingly unlike a typical California Zinfandel. Good right out of the bottle, and good by itself or with food. A good party wine too. This is a delicious Chardonnay from Oregon. Nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel. Spicy and salty. This 6 year old Single Vineyard Chardonnay, still feels young and would continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. Feels like a good quality Burgundy white. Elegant, easy drinking and good by itself as a sipping wine. Chardonnay grapes were aged on the lees, in French oak barrels for 14 months. 13.7% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $100.

Elegant and complex, but a little restrained now. A good quality wine. Very fresh and young tasting, and a good food wine. Will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years. Has good potential to become a 94+ point wine. A blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $30.

Meadowcroft Wines Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2022, Napa Valley, California It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Strong nose of red and black fruits with cedar, chocolates, vanilla, licorice, herbs, black pepper, light earth and mediterranean spices. Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cherries, cedar, blueberries, coffee, spices, chocolates, peppercorn, eucalyptus, light earth and herbs. Long tangy finish with fine grained tannins and pomegranate syrup. This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from stags Leap District. Nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel. Elegant and interesting. Rich and fruit forward. complex and inviting. Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime. I gave it 2 hours in the decanter to open up properly. Although very young, it is already showing a really complex nose, which is nice to see. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Has good potential to become a 94+ point wine. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food, like barbecue meats. A tiny production of only 2,000 bottles. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $70.

Chateau Ferrand Cab Ferrand Pomerol 2022, Bordeaux It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a very unique wine, for Pomerol. Purple in color with a wide purple rim. Strong nose of black fruits with chocolate notes. Full bodied and soft with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with black cherries, currants, light wood, spices, coffee, earth, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn. Nice finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a very tasty Cabernet Franc from Pomerol. Soft and elegant. Balanced and complex. Still young, but already enjoyable even by itself. Spicy and rich. Fruit forward and elegant with good structure. Interesting stuff from the Right Bank of Bordeaux. 100% Cabernet Franc grapes were aged for 15 months in (75% new) French Oak barrels. 14% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $35.

Martin Ray Winery Napa Valley Merlot 2005, California It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back! Deep ruby in color with a brick rim. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with nice complexity and a soft mouthfeel. Showing plums, currants, light cedar, earth, herbs, light vanilla, licorice, light vegetables, coffee and black pepper. This 20 year old Merlot from Napa Valley is still drinking nicely, but past its peak. Elegant and interesting. This is a nice surprise, as I didn't see it drinking so nicely at this age. Needs an hour to open up in the bottle. Good by itself, and better with food at this point. I paired it with light appetizers. 14.4% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $25.
