Various fungi that survived the hard frost, hiding out in protected niches.
Scallop shaped, yellowish white fungi growing on an old birch log. Dim light accentuates the fungi and log in otherwise dark surroundings. A solitary beige/brown mushroom, it's gills visible on the underside of the cap. Some green blade of grass in the foreground, hints of blue sky and tree canopy in the background. A solitary mushroom that appears to be leaning against a fallen twig. Light beige/orange in colour, the cap is folded so that both the top and some of the gills are visible. A cluster of orange capped mushrooms growing out of old wood. Some sphagnum moss in the upper right corner. A tendril with small round, green leaves, crosses in front of the mushrooms.

Pterinochilus murinus, or the orange baboon tarantula. Tulia is our dark factor OBT, while CheChe is our Orange. In either case they are both stay hidden away in the webbing of leaf shrapnel and sphagnum mosses during the day.

OBTs have a reputation of being aggressive. They are not.

First thing early in the dark morning I can find her stationed on a bit of bark, enjoying her world and waiting for a meal to show up. Here, Tulia is spread out across her web carpet on bark. She's three and half inches in length and in excellent health just having molted and eaten her crickets. OBTs have a reputation of being aggressive. Haven't got under the microscope yet but I suspect this is Sphagnum pulchrum I have come across in a very good bog today north of the N59 in Conamara...

Lee did not place it there....a squirrel did!!! I love squirrels.

every day recently when i go out to water the pitcher plant, there's at least one honeybee on it? (look at the side of the pot, toward the left.) earlier today there were three?? my guess is they're thirsty and sucking the water from the sphagnum moss, but i wonder if they're attracted to a scent?
