Found these yesterday. Splitgill mushrooms & not the only hairy species.

It’s amazing in how many different forms, colours, structures, groupings mushrooms exist, which brings me back to biodiversity. It’s what makes nature thrive & I’d guess: us too.

Splitgill mushrooms. A cream coloured fan shaped mushroom with a rough fuzzy textured surface growing on a wet log. There is a small bright green patch of moss in the foreground on the left side of the image. A shiny pinkish-purple coral shaped mushroom growing on the rough textured surface of a wet log. A translucent, almost clear shiny blob of a jelly fungus growing in a crack on the trunk of a mossy tree. It is surrounded by green moss and pale green and white lichen. Splitgill Species of fungus About Schizophyllum commune is a species of fungus in the genus Schizophyllum. The mushroom resembles undulating waves of tightly packed corals or a loose Chinese fan. Gillies or split-gills vary from creamy yellow to pale white in colour. The cap is small, 1-4 centimetres wide with a dense yet spongey body texture. It is known as the split-gill mushroom because of the unique, longitudinally divided nature of the namesake gills on the underside of the cap. It is found on rotting wood throughout the world.

Last week we had colored Scizophyllum Commune, the Common Splitgill. Here’s a stack of white ones on the side of a tree. They are fuzzy. A cluster of white Scizophyllum Commune on a log. I sat down on a bump on a tree and heard the singing behind me. Looked behind thr tree and found burgundy colored Maroon Madrone Tubaria. This is a single mushroom; cap, stem and gills all the same color. They grow on madrone trees. I haven’t found any since these in 2020 in Mendocino County Cluster of Madrone Tubaria caps and some visible gills
