Walk along bank of the Snake River this afternoon. At 54°, with nothing falling from the sky, more like a Spring day than nearly halfway thru Dec!

The Spring River, which flows from the Missouri Ozarks into Kansas and down toward Oklahoma’s Grand Lake, is seeing encouraging signs that several species that once called it home are coming back.
A long-polluted Ozark river appears to finally be bouncing back from disaster
The fish and rare mussels hiding in the Spring River that flows through Kansas and Missouri are signs that environmental cleanups are helping river wildlife recover from a century of mining pollution.

On this 18° December day, Giant Springs State Park was steaming in the rare sunshine. I watched a duck slide down the cascades into the Missouri River. Lots of Canada geese flying above us. This makes 12/12 months in 2025 visiting this treasured spot in #Montana.

Lightning Creek(looking like a river today), Bonner County @ flood stage. Blew out East Spring Creek road overnight.

All creeks/rivers in Northern Bonner County are at flood stage. Be careful out there.

Before anyone criticizes people for staying home, let me share that we had the sheriff down here all day because a white boat was traveling the river with people trying to break into homes where people had evacuated. I see my banks getting a healthy planting of thorny Nootka rose next spring.

The River Dart in spate flowing through (and over!) Totnes following heavy & prolonged rainfall.

And this is one week past spring tides!

Blue Spring, Southeast Missouri Known for its vibrant blue color. No swimming to Cold. Visitors can view its beauty from observation deck. Over 310 feet deep making it one of deepest in US It discharges about 90 million gallons daily into Current River. Color comes from its depth & mineral content

Recently, the Skagit River which runs off the North Cascades into Skagit County, flooded. Thankfully, the flood wall in Mount Vernon held the waters back.

I took these photos last spring in Mt. Vernon.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 9 “Promise of Spring” 16 × 20, acrylic on gallery wrap canvas, a partially frozen river reflects bare trees. The stillness of the water mirrors the surrounding landscape, creating a peaceful balance between the chill of winter & quiet anticipation of seasonal change.

I once floated down the Jack's Fork of the current river near Blue spring. Sometimes under the Jack spark of the current river:-)

There is an aqueduct that brings spring water from the mountains, but the town is pretty close to outgrowing the supply. Rumor has it, the government wants to build a dam on the nearby river and that will provide enough water to hydrate a city, but they likely won't ever do something so expensive.

Wow, I just read today's forecast of 56 degrees for a high today, and mid-50s through the upcoming weekend. There are flood watches near parts of the river 💧 This feels more like early spring 🍃 Maybe that's why crows have been sticking around. They're usually gone by the end of October.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #SideViews with an alternative of #TurningAway, with birds not looking at you.

So for the first, a tufted duck on the Wandle delta.

For the second, a crow in spring, in Wandsworth Park.

For those that don't know, an "ice out" in Minnesota is the date for the disappearance of ice on the surface of a lake or river during the spring thaw. One could also argue that we want an "ice out" on our roads and bridges. And, of course, we want ICE out of the communities they are terrorizing.

A nod to @dmrider.bsky.social at @thestar.com There is a ton to cover when it comes to creating equitable options to move from one side of the Don River to the other.

Single-occupancy vehicles are not the answer, but I completely get for some people, the car is their only means of movement. 1/

Snowy forested ravines like this will become little streams feeding meltwater into the Ottawa River in spring. Here the noon sun - so low these days! - shines through the woods casting long blue shadows in the snow.
