Basic dungeon system set up!

Since all the art are basically hand done 2d sprites, it doesn’t use very much processing power at all, which theoretically should allow me to have the whole world hopefully exist at once!

I remember getting lost in these maps and ending up with like 30 minutes past par every time. My big cousins were always pointing out the sprites of the impaled guys and all the body parts on the walls like, "Yeah, we did that." and never tell me how they did. Games were so magical back then.

The original sprites are scaled up 4x, but the dithering between the two colors was done using GraphicsGale's 256-color "transparency". That allowed me to make it fade from one sprite to the other on a kind of "sub-pixel" level here.

I think it's a pretty neat effect.

Closeup showing the transition between both colors of the sprite. It's apparently that each "pixel" on the sprite is actually 16 pixels (a 4x4 square). At this phase in the color transition, each real pixel that makes up the character sprite is alternating between the appropriate color from that 4x4 pixel on either sprite.

A thing I noticed (because I've yet to get far enough on the Saturn version of regular Grandia to see them) is that there are enemy sprites that do the famous Saturn dithering thing but also 3D effects on magic and the like that clearly use transparent/translucent layers.

Being attracted to drawings is normal, that's how all art works, representation of the object having an effect on the observer; in this case desire.
