The Art of War literature teaches that writing #Strategy is an exercise fraught with illusion. You can't theorize it, you can barely describe it as a historical object, and you can't prescribe it. The gap between strategy in words and practice is the defining feature of the genre. #StrategicStudies

#StrategicStudies is completely disconnected from the art of war literature. It substituted an odd canon with few usual suspects (from Sun Tzi to Mahan) ignoring the fact that it’s a literary corpus—ie, a highly integrated whole. #Clausewitz
Great Substack and Follow for the Clausewitz nerds out there.
I quote with approval the two excerpts below—Strategic studies does not engage seriously with Clausewitz. It mostly reads bits of poorly translated On War—it reads “Clausewitz”.
