There are several really important political Substacks to follow, read, subscribe to. And this is one of them (I never miss).
I only promote who and what I believe in.

Do I have something to say about the sociopath Trump dancing in Malaysia while Americans are facing the cruel impact of the government shutdown? Sure do. I'd be glad to send you my writing on the topic first thing in the morning if you subscribe (free or paid) to www.americaamerica.news

A 14-word replacement for most op-eds, substacks, etc about this moment.
The GOP could stop ALL of this, right now—if a handful of Sens or Reps could step outside the cult.
It would take four in the Senate, four (maybe five) in the House, to change history.
Until then, they're all to blame.

How did a fundraising consultant become one of the most subscribed-to Substacks?
I’m going to guess that Mike Nellis is mass-uploading his clients’ email lists to pump up his Substack numbers.
I emailed both Mike and Substack several days ago for comment. I haven’t heard back.

Peak Indie, in @ericdharvey.com’s essay about @chrisdeville.bsky.social’s book, is 2010. Spotify entered the US market in July 2011. Streaming killed the music blog star - the blogs themselves - and ultimately nearly all music writer jobs in journalism. We are reduced to writing books and substacks

pro tip: "independent media" does not primaily mean individuals writing on substacks, it means journalistic outlets w prof standards not dominated by corporate interests
(i try not to start arguments but i saw a bad take!)
*yes it's a complex landscape these days, but that's what the term means

Anyone who does land use advocacy in suburban and most of urban California knows who the actual opposition is.
If you’re just participating in politics thru writing or reading substacks about SF culture war, you’re missing the other 95% of California population wise.

This is something I wrote for Most Favoured Nation, the substack of my friend, trade expert and all round good-guy, Sam Lowe.

I understand this feeling, but also I feel like people deserve to be compensated for their labor? Putting the work in to coordinate these events is hard. People get upset whenever paywalled stuff from Vico or Rhys's substacks or TCF patreon so like why is this any different

There's no blame coming from my end.
I provide fact, rarely rhetoric. I share info from others who do the same. What I post is being used by many to develop their posts, substacks and news across multiple platforms in their personal style.
Occasionally, I vent.

My recent substacks have been fairly popular, so I thought I would share an older one which wasn't but I think is very relevant. This ones is on attendance; open.substack.com/pub/johnsonp... #EduSky #thisisAP #attendance
Follow the desire path to better attendance
TLDR: Spaced is an excellent British series and should be moving away from defensive architecture in education policy, instead embrace desire paths.

The streaming dragon indeed. Have to order appetizers from restaurant A, soup from B, main from C. Each with a cover charge. I’m all over podcasts, newsletters, and Substacks as well, and occasionally grump that this used to come efficiently and cost effectively in a newspaper.
