Been using the free Synth1 VST for over 20 years and it's been an inspiring and easy to use synth plugin to get new tracks started.
Since the latest Ableton Live updates Synth1 started acting really weird. I'm afraid out journey has come to a sad end, Synth1.

I'm using Bottles. FL works to a certain degree. Majority of test VSTs not even loading some loaded and work and specifically Synth1 just crashes the whole app because it uses external sound banks

Got Synth1 going and immediately going "Oh hell yeah I did use this before" before realizing I had no idea how to do anything other than just mess with settings until a sound sounds good.

Continue BS with Linux. Managed to make FL Studio run through Bottles??? But it has some naggy issues like adding new instrument or anything it introduces 2s delay yay. And Synth1 completely crashes the app. Wonder if there is debloated 11 iso somewhere on the internet 🤔🤔🤔

Serum, KONTAKT and Synth1, to name some plugin examples, are my friends. However I am aware that the majority of what is answered in this answer costs money (although Serum's rent to pay plan is a godsend) but Synth1 has a TON of easy to find presets that could help being a perfect start.

synth1!!!! really cool vst that kinda has its own sound, like the way it handles distortion is kinda weird

tbf Current is just Vital but with a better fx rack. GHOST is uuuh a lot cause of the FM stuff. Synth1? Absolute classic. 10/10

btw all the sounds i used for the little music in this vid are packed in my Synth1 Preset pack if you want to check it out, it's free + open source and I'm adding new funky little sounds to it all the time : ) up to 29 presets patches now!
