I’ve been online in some form for something close to forty years and we really still haven’t figured out moderation any better than the single-sysop dial-up BBSes did (which is to say, we haven’t figured it out at all)

I've never run anything near as large as this platform, but I was a sysop in the 90's and have continued to be a board or group admin on some level or another ever since, and this is kinda the only moderation approach I have found that keeps little despots from emerging.

This is what I did as a BBS SysOp back in the 1990s. Misbehaving users lost different aspects of their access piecemeal instead of all together, and it was very effective
