I can’t believe you lefty Luddites hate tech so much that you embrace mRNA vaccines, heat pumps, electric bikes, hybrid work, renewable power (and awesome advancements in storage), space telescopes, and hot/cold running water but reject the planet destroying plagiarism enrich the worst people bots!

Well it's near impossible for extraterrestrials to not exist in this infinite universe. Have you ever noticed that all of the telescopes looking for intelligent life are pointing away from Earth ???

This is such a weird question for me as someone who just came to work to finalize slides for my class on upcoming space telescopes while over breakfast my husband kept sharing his excitement in how much power our new solar panels are generating and if it’ll be enough to charge the car today
"Is there technology the left is excited about?" is the kind of question you only ask if you're wildly naive about technology.

mRNA vaccines. Heat pumps. Offshore wind. Urban mining. Sodium batteries.

But god forbid we're not fawning over every new implementation of Making Computers Bad At Math.

It never would have occurred to me that we could have telescopes capable of seeing a change in redshift of a galaxy over time as the univeral expansion accelerates. That's mind-boggling.
Can we see the expanding Universe changing?

#AskEthan

We've measured the expanding Universe by looking at many objects at different distances and with different redshifts.

Here's how we'll measure it directly: with just one object over time.

Ask Ethan: Can we see the expanding Universe changing?
The Universe is expanding, the expansion is accelerating, and some galaxies even recede faster-than-light. Can we see a change in real time?

We got custom Buffs made for the Sweden SKA Science Days and other sweSRC and Nordic ARC node events this year, inspired by the telescopes and landscape of Onsala Space Observatory. The anticipation has been intense, but they turned out so well! 🤩 🔭 📡

In this image captured at Paranal, one of the Auxiliary Telescopes of our VLT is still asleep, with its spherical dome closed.

But overhead, the night is wide awake and the #milkyway is putting on a stunning show!

First, I probably know tens of dozens of progressives who are happily using Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini.

But as for fascinating tech I’m excited about:

mRNA vaccines
Gene therapy
Particle colliders
Solar energy capture
Space telescopes
Planetary rovers

Tech that expands knowledge and saves lives.

Every day we get to work on the amazing Hubble, James Webb and upcoming Nancy Grace Roman space telescopes. We have to admit, they're out of this world! 😁 🔭

#PPOD: This picture shows the full scope of Paranal’s beauty. Cerro Paranal in Chile’s Atacama Desert, the mountain peak home to ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT), is a site of many marvels. And this panoramic image taken by Chilean astrophotographer Alexis Trigo certainly captures them all. 🧪 🔭

We do a lot of looking: we look through lenses, telescopes, television tubes…
Our looking is perfected every day, but we see less and less.
