That quote reminds me of when I went to get measured for my silk’s robes (tailcoat; breeches; and a court jacket). I remarked that all seemed a bit on the large side around the waist (you only buy one set of silk robes) “in our experience, sir” came the reply “commercial silks don’t get thinner”

Two soldiers from a modern time period of a fantasy world.

The one on the left, a Meridian Defense Force soldier, wears a kit largely reminiscent of modern US military equipment, with a modified multicam camouflage pattern and a red and white shield patch. He wields an XM8, a discontinued prototype in our world, but evidently a regular service weapon in this setting.

The one on the right, of the Strandfjall Defense Forces, wears a lighter kit utilizing the Swedish M90 splinter camouflage. His uniform has more fantasy elements, like a longer uniform top with a “tailcoat” portion, and a decorated green mantle sits upon his shoulders. He wields an Intervention sniper rifle.

workout and showered by the time the circadian panels across the station started to hint at morning, ready to don his daily armor.
Black socks. Black trousers with a silvery gray strip up the leg. White button up shirt with starched cuffs and collar, bib sewn in place to ensure opacity. Black tie tied in a standard Windsor knot. Black shoes carefully shined and laced. Bayle had learned it was important to put those on before his black double-breasted waistcoat and tailcoat made it harder to bend down. The all-function pocket-watch, attached to a buttonhole by a gold chain, went into a waistcoat pocket; the most essential tool of his job. The gloves went last.
Three months with the Hermitage and he was finally getting used to the uniform. It was hardly the first time he’d been kitted up in some special costume preferred by an employer, but those had usually been to make him look mean and tough. He rather liked the way he looked in his new suit; more dignified than a paid bruiser

More specifically, he's wearing a tailcoat waistcoat with a pocket watch, tucked into which is a jabot, affixed with a red gem. Beneath that is a poet shirt with extravagantly poofy sleeves, kept clear of his wrists by long, buttoned, removeable cuffs (to keep the blood away, of course). He wears fall front trousers, high heeled boots, and over his clothes he wears stiff collared vampire cloak. The only colour in the piece are some spots of bright red highlighting his red eyes, his dangle earrings, and the jabot at his neck. He has dark, clawed fingers, and a fang pokes out over his black lips.
