that’s technofascism baby
NEW: ICE has paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to a company that makes “AI agents” to rapidly track down targets.

AI Solutions 87 did not respond to a request for comment on how its AI agents work.

A lot of replies to this thread along the lines of "they don't care about security because look at how they're handling climate change and vaccines"

They do care. They have an alternate theory of security that's focused on securing militarized technofascism using AI and quantum physics.
I just wish someone would be honest and say “we are ending civilian science in favor of science that is focused on serving national security and war”

At a certain point of power imbalance playing devil's advocate and granting nuance is just rolling over at best (if not just running defense)

You don't actually gotta hand it to the trillion dollar technofascism project
periodically I'll see a backlash that goes a little too far or seems kinda unfair. i never say anything because i think we need to be kinda unhinged and zealous in our response to this shit. I'd take an honest-to-God crusade against this stuff over letting it proliferate.
We can do even more.

I wrote 1200 fun words today! Here's how they end: "For those of us concerned with the rise of technofascism, there is critical potential in short circuiting the pathways by which authority is seized via proximity to scientific thought."

“We write from the perspective of 2025. But we also write as historians looking back at a lineage of educators and students who have resisted the incursions of technosolutionism, technocapitalism, and technofascism in higher education.”

And we don't even have cool implants. We have all the shitty stuff but of course in the rotten timeline we just have technofascism and megacorpos...

Ok finally watched Eddington! It was good and had surprisingly insightful things to say about technofascism and left to rightwing grifter pipeline. I personally wished for fewer explosions and for more child trafficking conspiracy/cult bits but overall enjoyable! Unlike Garland, Aster is smart

Worth pointing out that mainstream media thrives on chaos pushing the news cycle

Also mainstream media helped elect Trump by sanewashing him & attacking Biden (who was no prize tbc)

This in addition to the vested interest billionaire owners have in technofascism

Lose-lose for us

Win-win for them

Technofascism in action
So there is already an ai-generated whitewashing campaign to bury the name of the Muslim man, Ahmed al Ahmed, who disarmed one of the Bondi Beach shooters, and replace his identity with a white guy name and that’s why even a thimble of our potable water powering this tech is too fucking much.

SNL is up there with Jimmy Fallon in terms of normalizing right-wing ideology and technofascism, they just somehow manage to fly under the radar better

“We assume the present is a much more serviceable guide to the future than candid examination of past experience would show it to have been hitherto.” - Keynes

I fully believe we are facing technofascism because the “smart money” bet the trends DURING A GLOBAL PANDEMIC would continue in perpetuity.

I know it’s a concept that people believe shouldn’t be done at all no matter how you tackle it but MAWS makes the best case for it out of any of them because there actually is way more to it and it’s used to illustrate parallels with Earth and the technofascism of both

“I wish for the downfall of capitalism”

*finger of the monkey paw curls*

It is being replaced with technofascism with the oligarchs running everything.

I can't be the first or even 50th person to post this, but it just clicked for me while microwaving beans and cheese that technofascism offers the exact same premise of authoritarian Christianity in its view that today's actions don't matter because a utopian future is ahead

all the people that sucked Trump's toes and paid for his fucking ballroom

some of them making "problematic" claims like Zuck's masculinism or Musk's nazism

technofascism rising... in those hands AI is posing a serious risk for citizen information, opinion manipulation, data collection, tracking

We spent the entirety of the 2010s hearing about what kind of socialism would come after the inevitable downfall of capitalism and I think nobody really expected "neoliberal technofascism" to be the likeliest actual answer
I feel like there's something kind of interesting that some of the highest profile Silicon Valley firms (Tesla, OpenAI, Palantir, Anduril) have outrageous valuations given their current revenue that seem in no small part predicated in them taking control of the United States government
I read this future of war / we’re not ready piece with interest and it’s strikingly shallow.

Surveillance and targeting have advanced, yes. That’s in my 2018 book. Much of the rest reads like tech company hype marketing.

AI will make bio weapons that target one person! Well, it sure can’t now.

This. I’m (also) opposed to technochauvinism and technofascism, which are tied these.
When I’m accused of “technopessimism“ I counter that I’m not “pessimistic about technology“; I am opposed to the economic, political, and social project of upward wealth transfer that “AI” is being leveraged to bring about. If that phrasing is useful to others, then go ahead and use it.

Palantir's new neurodivergent fellowship is in fact bad because neurodivergent people participating in technofascism will not save us. Latest for @motherjones.com www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
