BTW may I ask if this is a laptop or desktop? I mean this could also be a simple overheating/throttling of the cpu due to poor age, airflow, old thermalpaste, and/or a stopped up heatsink/fan.

I have a pretty beefy PC - ryzen 5 / rtx 2070 / 64gb ram
But I definitely slack when cleaning it... might be time to replace the thermalpaste honestly

Huh really? I swear I thought the Wii used thermalpaste, guess that video I watched either had some REALLY crusty thermal pads, or they just used thermal paste on it before?
But anywho, if you have the technical know how, it's probably not the worst idea to replace those anyways is it?

Can of compressed air, blow out the outlets. If it is spiking like that, it probably needs to be cleaned out. Also, never worked on a Mac personally, but thermalpaste can dry out and needs to be replaced from time to time.

Liquid metal thermalpaste was a mistake. That shit fused after 2y, had to heat it up and make this CPU spatula to get it off 😐

I cant imagine you finding a p4 prescott that hasnt burned up at this point. mine literally ignited the thermalpaste. My best guess is that that paste broke down, and collected a ton of dust that ignited
