I think an overlooked part of Plaything (Black Mirror S7E4) is that the Thronglets speak gibberish. Their language is nothing but random chirps and meows.

It's a parallel to how AIs hallucinate. They spit out nonsense and, like in Plaything, people using it swear they understand the gibberish.

When an AI says what it thinks in the answer to, say, the 3x+1 problem, it's producing random chirps and meows. When you ask an AI for it's "real name", it is giving you bullshit. And yet, people will on their lives they understand.

They swear that the Thronglets are sentient.
