Zohran Mamdani is a masterclass in running a universalist campaign while remaining attuned to difference
Mamdani: "The dream of every Muslim is simply to be treated the same as every other New Yorker. And yet for too long we have been told to ask for less than that and to be satisfied with whatever little we receive. No more."

I love it when people insult me using language that I wholeheartedly claim.
The latest one is trying to slam me for saying God loves everyone. “Pastor Lura Groen, an admitted universalist…”
Ok, you got me. 🤷♀️

Like every community, American Jews have seen massive spikes in income and wealth inequality. However, left-wing uber wealthy Jews tend to donate to universalist causes, while right-wing Jews donate to Jewish ones. 2/

Planks 3 & 4 are even more revealing; really comes across that this is for a whiter male Dem party, rather than one advocating on universalist values. It's more whom can they throw under the bus for votes.

Do they say UU or do they just say "Universalist"? I was assuming they didn't mean a particular current denomination / faith organization so much as that they're inclined towards a universalist theory of salvation.

hate to put this account on blast but the (elder) rav kook was much much more universalist in perspective than the rambam. the rambam's "universalism" is skin-deep and in his actual halakhic rulings he is usually much narrower and uglier than the kabbalists who yeshayahu leibowitz despises
I was looking for some theoretical / philosophical materials on Selichot סליחות, pre-Kippur prayers for forgiveness.
And I found this in Yeshayahu Leibowitz. The coexistence of deep wisdom about human condition and superficial cruelty about earthly matters in some of the best minds (rav Kook, e.g).

I repeat - I regard myself as a Catholic (though with a strong Unitarian Universalist streak), and I do not see anything remotely Christian is his speech or the policies he advocates. He does not "Speak the Truth out of love".

its perfectly coherent: an individualism that isnt universalist denies individual freedom to those on the wrong side of some arbitrary line like a national border or gender assigned at birth; theres no universality without individual agents to move across contexts while holding perspective constant

Some Churches of Christ are surprisingly liberal. I always get them mixed up though because different denominations use the phrase "Church of Christ" and they basically go from more-or-less Unitarian Universalist all the way to basically Pentecostal.

I'm aware of that. I "crusade" against Unitarian Universalist #ClergyAbuse that includes child rape. Valérie Plante & #ProjetMontréal have been quite dishonest about this matter. I decided to give Craig the benefit of the doubt based on what little I know. Some women do make false accusations.

Me in a nutshell! The Church matters too much to me to be ‘woo woo universalist’ (lol love) but the reality is I come from a non-Christian culture - not even post-Christendom! That complicates things! soteriology, eschatology, whatever I just know Jesus saves in his love and mercy 🤷🏻♀️

We show Twilight Zone episodes as part of our teen curriculum at our Unitarian Universalist Congregation. They actually like the old programs and get the lessons within. Rod Sterling was a UU. Amazing writing and acting.

I gave a public educational seminar on the history of vaccines yesterday sponsored by @gain-indivisible.bsky.social. I encourage all scientists to give public educational seminars a shot. You’ll learn something and you will be surprised (in a good way) by the people you meet.

Readers, he meant my annual pledge to the Unitarian Universalist church I'm joining. But I do appreciate his determination to keep me budget-oriented.

Slavery is, of course, the blight on the framer's vision, but is striking how far they went to make clear that - no really - they intended their universalist principles to be, y'know, universal.
The same thing comes out if you look at how birthright citizenship was understood for the 14A.

I mean, Ganz is literally nbding the Nazi tattoos to avoid uttering the words "Will Stancil was correct." The death wish bit is some bullshit he wrote about Israelis being inferior to American Jews for not having soi-disant universalist American values. Apparently those values include Nazi tattoos.

i'm seriously considering going to a Unitarian Universalist church, which sounds wild for me to say as an atheist, but everything i've learnt about them recently has me intrigued & wanting to go. Progressive church that's got a lot of atheist + other members, & a place to find community, let's see!

Thinking a lot about having been Unitarian Universalist for a while & how you'd try to explain 7 principles &c,
& whoever asked you what it is would immediately go "So you'd a Kl*nsman in?"
& then "So you WOULDN'T let them in?
Turns out people fundamentally don't understand principles & covenants.

Pedocon theory went mainstream between last No Kings and today. So many folks with "Trump is a pedophile" and similar signs out today in the hands of people who volunteer at the Unitarian Universalist bake sales.
