The USPTO filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification on Oct. 14, indicating 126 employees at its Alexandria headquarters will be removed from the payroll on Dec. 9, but a source familiar with the matter told me on Friday that these are not new layoffs.

Interesting new pilot program introduced by the USPTO. I see limited benefit, especially with no reduction in filing fees, and seems yet another way to move closer to EPO style prosecution.

Eastern district of Virginia has three divisions. Alexandria, Norfolk (where the house is) Newport News and Richmond.
Alexandria is the furthest from Norfolk distance and usually only gears patent suits (USPTO is in Alexandria) except for occasional civil suits.
