Some autumn colours for this classic Wastwater view. Green grass with yellow and orange scrub on the bank of wastwater. The fells, always slightly orange and brown at this time of year, are made more so by the setting sun.

A burst of sunlight illuminates the strip of farmland at the foot of Wastwater in the Lake district. The lake shimmers beyond with warm autumn light also kissing the sides of the surrounding fells.

Autumn in Wastwater.
Wordsworth described Wastwater as,”long, stern and desolate.” This was a crisp, clear day with the fells dressed in their best in autumn colours.

Each time I’ve been here it has been lovely weather, I would rather like to see the fells at their moodiest.
Wastwater is the deepest of all English lakes. It is surrounded by the mountains of Red Pike, Kirk Fell, Great Gable and Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain.
I can best describe these mountains on this day in my photo as looking as if they are clothed in camouflage outfits.
