The way we can definitively say it’s fake, beyond just vibes, is that it contains the SynthID watermark.

This watermark is invisible to the naked eye, but included in all images made with Google’s AI image products like Nano Banana Pro.

AI detectors are unreliable but the Google watermark is good.

The X account that created the video Donald Trump shared depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes was previously behind the clip the US president shared that portrayed him as a pilot dumping excrement on "No Kings" protesters. Note the matching watermark.

I just tested this out with a selfie, asking Gemini to add a digital watermark and then starting a new chat to ask.

Gemini said it had the SynthID watermark so it's AI. Gemini also falsely claimed the "Hiroshima USA" magazine behind me was AI generated because of tiny distortions it added.

The New York Times has finally covered the Trump video of Obama as an ape — and they are still providing cover for him. Fuck the Times.
It was unclear if Mr. Trump was aware that the clip had been included in the video before he shared it. It was unclear how the clip was made, although it appeared to have been generated by A.I. The clip appeared to have been taken from a video that was shared in October by a user on X whose watermark is shown, with the caption “President Trump: King of the Jungle,” and an emoji of a lion.
