Even on his off time, his neural network obsession bled into his sketching and painting hobby. Backs of napkins saw the brunt of his frenzy, black pen ink practically ripping through the flimsy paper, but every time his attempts had him pausing and considering, he would set that one off to the side for later consideration. The collection turned into a compilation which evolved into a fully-fledged art piece that his boss immediately purchased to hang in their building lobby, and John felt immense pride looking up at all 8 feet of it when its installation was finished. Following his surprising pick because of that art piece of all things—an abstract depiction of neural network pathways, John's letter of congrats for the position in the highly-sought after Neuromod division was disregarded upon arrival, and now the memory of acceptance tasted like bitter, burnt coffee as he floated in his assigned Maintenance gear by one of the Magnetosphere rings.

“Compulsory heterosexuality.” Oliver chuckled. He’d slipped a hand into one of Felix's back pockets, being extra cuddly. Felix liked Ollie like this; he was like a little teddy bear, and it was near-impossible to resist picking him up for a proper squeeze. He'd get one later, and more, if he was lucky. “Good old section twenty-eight.” Felix wasn't about to admit that he had no idea what Oliver was on about. He'd google it later- especially as Eric was nodding in a way that meant he understood. Felix suddenly felt a little out of his depth, a child who'd gone into a classroom expecting to learn their times tables and being presented with quadratic equations. He felt his face heating up, and he glanced down at Oliver, meeting his eyes. No judgment, because there never was- Felix reminded himself that he was marrying an educator, before trying to look suitably chagrined. “Mind explaining that to me, Olls? You know me. Bit too frivolous to know about the serious stuff.” “Course not, Felix.” He'd made the right call. Oliver’s face had crumpled into a charmingly fey smile, eyes nearly closing with delight at getting to teach Felix something. “So, you remember how we hate Thatcher, yeah? Well, it was part of this legislation called The Local Government Act…” Felix wasn't sure if it was rude to find Oliver educating him adorable, but it wasn't as if he was doing it on purpose.

She was sobbing now — not prettily, but violently. Her whole body shook with it. “I saw how you looked at her!” she shrieked, spittle catching in the corners of her mouth. “You sick, sinful bastard! I see the filth in your eyes — I feel it. You make my skin crawl!” Morveiyn, stunned by the ferocity of her outburst, faltered — the mask of perfect composure slipping for a moment, as he twisted helplessly in her grip like a sapling bent by hurricane winds. The guards still held his arms wrenched behind his back — it was only thanks to their firm grasp that the stout woman hadn’t knocked him flat to the floor. Her distorted face loomed close, and for a second, he braced himself — expecting her to claw at his skin or sink her teeth into him.
