Many have conditions that will be made worse by being forced to do work search & work even if only from the stress of the constant threat of sanctions if their workcoach doesn't accept they really did do all they could or their condition prevents them doing so for enough hours to prevent sanctions.

I'm in the UK and the rules over job search for Universal Credit claimants required to look for work now mean people do get sanctioned for stuff like not applying for enough jobs, not proving you did enough hrs searching & also you can be sanctioned because your workcoach has referred enough

This is where life long problems started for many people - childhood trauma left unaddressed

The long term impact is massive and destructive.
It's more that 6 sessions of CBT or an encouraging chat from a workcoach can solve.

It is why we need much better mental health services

In my case they were supposed to support me in returning to the workforce after serious illness. They didn't do anything. No support. Two pointless 3 minute face to face meetings, which i had to instigate when ESA benefit expired. No workcoach allocated. No advice. Nothing. Nada. Zip.
