He bathes in the lambent fulgur of her gaze, his body pliant in willing paralysis as she rolls him on to his back: enfolding, immersing, her hair streaming about him like a curtain of fog. Her every movement is deliberate as the recitation of an ancient lay; she scarce knows the words, but the rhythm is writ into her - the slow roll of an ocean swell. There is no tact; no subtlety, no skill in her grasping hands and chasing mouth; only instinct, squalling hunger, and a desperate need to pull him closer, pull him under. Which is as well, for his only wish is to drown, with her and in her, again and again and again; a twined tempest, from which they might both emerge reborn.

It is an impossibly bright, beautiful day in the Kingdom of Rainbows, crystal spires singing under an azure sky, painted with cotton clouds. Close side by side, Zefiris and G'raha wander idly together down the long stone staircase which descends toward Longmirror Lake. G'raha Tia: 'I lingered here awhile when first I arrived - 'twas where I first encountered Feo Ul. The Tower's hold was not so strong in those days...' They continue to descend the stairs, in step with one another as they talk. Their excursion is something of an experiment, with G'raha keen to push the boundaries of how far he might travel, and for how long - but they are taking things easy on their 'date', to ensure he does not overexert himself. G'raha Tia: '...indeed, I was wholly unaware of the limitations imposed upon me, until the symptoms became too plain to ignore.' G'raha Tia: 'With the benefit of hindsight I should be glad of it - I might have lost myself quite entirely amidst the revelries and bafflements of the Fae in my naïve attempts to glean some historical truth from them.' Zefiris pauses on the stairs, falling behind G'raha a little as he talks. She smiles, delighted to see how animated he is, how thoroughly he seems to be enjoying the opportunity to explore on this little adventure of theirs - and though she is listening, she is also quite distracted by the sight of him. Zefiris: 'Ever the Archon, hm?' G'raha's ears flick up at her gentle teasing; looking back towards her, he bites his lip, a little embarrassed at the implication that he has been waxing academic - but also touched at the reminder of his past, and of how she remembers him.

A late afternoon in summer, with warm golden sunlight - just edging toward evening - spilling down across verdant green grasses, flourishing under a natural spectrum at last. In a quiet spot on the outskirts of Sweetsieve, Zefiris and G'raha sit drowsing together under the shade of a tree, with the curved domes of the Crystarium's residential district spread out behind them. Zefiris sits with her back against the tree and legs spread; G'raha is nestled in between, and leans back against her as though she were a particularly comfortable armchair, his head resting back against her shoulder, eyes closed and lips parted with a sigh of deep contentment and relaxation. Zefiris doesn't seem to mind; she too sits with her eyes closed, her chin resting on his head, her smile peaceful. Viewed from the opposite side, more familiar parts of the city are visible; the brick staircase leading to the back entrance of the Wandering Stairs. Blonde sandstone walls fairly glowing, crystal canopies sparkling like jewels - everything about the city is rich and warm, vivid with colour and life. Amidst it all, they sit at ease together, dappled light playing across their faces. With eyes barely opened, each gazes dreamily ahead; anchoring one another through touch, whilst lost in their own thoughts, their own quiet contemplations.

The Exarch's personal chamber in the Crystal Tower. The room is spartan, and clearly not designed as accommodation - more like a storage space, attached to the back of the Umbilicus. The entrance is an empty void where a broken sliding door no longer co-operates; a heavy red velvet curtain hangs over the space in its place. The few sparse furnishings are simple pieces: a set of shelves holding tinctures and bandages, and several assorted bottles of wines and spirits; a thin rug covering the bare floor around the bed; a simple desk and chair in the Lakeland style, covered with and surrounded by piles of books and stacks of papers, and a single ornamental hourglass stood like a warning. Above the desk hangs the only ornament in the room - a large painting in a classically-styled frame. From offscreen, G'raha speaks. G'raha Tia: 'I...apologise for the draught. There is a recessed door, but it has been stuck for the past seventy years or so, and has resisted my every attempt at a repair.' Dressed only in shorts, he lies in bed beside Zefiris, propped up on one arm as he looks down at her. She too wears shorts and her usual tank top - it does just as well for sleeping - and lies on her back, arms behind her head and turned towards him as they talk quietly together. Their legs are tangled together, and he rests his spoken hand on her stomach in an easy intimacy. The room is darkened, illuminated only by small table lights which reflect on the crystalline walls, setting them glittering. G'raha Tia: 'I appropriated the heavy curtain from the upper floors, but 'tis more bother than worth to draw it - though of course, if you're at all uncomfortable...' Zefiris smiles up at him, stroking his knee; his tail curls about her thigh. Zefiris: 'I'm quite comfortable, thank you. Very, in fact.' Zefiris: 'But more than that, I'm...honoured. It is sunset, and the two gaze out across Lakeland, its skies washed in comforting, natural golden light. Eyes closed, they sit in comfortable, companionable silence, utterly at ease with one another. They murmur together quietly, dreamily; Zefiris turns towards G'raha. They have spoken of much since sitting down together earlier in the day; of things both whimsical and weighty - and found only peace and understanding from one another. Later on the same day as the preceding story, the folk of the Crystarium have gathered in the market for a grand celebration of the return of their Exarch, the Scions, and the night. The Wandering Stairs is busy, the background filled with Crystarium folk in conversation. The Scions are gathered loosely around a table, dressed up for the occasion in garments provided by the Mean. Y'shtola sits in the background, dressed in an elegant black gown. In front of her, Alisaie stands looking suspiciously up at Zefiris, while Alphinaud laughs good humouredly at her. The Warrior herself stands in conversation with Urianger and Thancred, though her gaze is fixed off-screen, towards the entrance to the marketplace, as thought waiting to catch someone. Very out of character, she is dressed in a simple black dress, belted at the waist - and for the first time ever, has left her hair loose in public; to those used to seeing her in braid and battle gear, she is almost unrecognisable. Urianger gestures with his wineglass as he speaks; Thancred, sitting down beside the two, looks up with a conspiratorial smile.

The Pendants, the morning after. The warm light of dawns' first rays illuminate the two sleepers, under a blanket more off them than on. His tail lies draped across her waist, and his expression is utterly peaceful - his lips gently parted, his hair also unbraided. Zefiris shifts slightly, turning her head. At the movement, G'raha's eyes crack open blearily. His ears flick in confusion; still mostly asleep, he raises his tail, unsure where the strange sensation of warmth is coming from. Deeply confused and fuzzy with sleep, he lifts his head a little, drawing his tail up the length of whatever is behind him, trying to comprehend its shape. Suddenly his eyes fly open, his ears sweeping erect as fragments of the preceding night begin to come back to him; he lifts his bottling tail clear in shock, but otherwise remains perfectly still.

It was not my intention to impose upon you longer than it took to ensure you were well, and recovering as comfortably as you might.' She smiles at him. Lulled by the gentle camaraderie between them, the bond of old friends reunited, something is very different about her this night - more open, relaxed, and talkative than usual, and definitely more forthcoming with her opinion. As always, she wears the amethyst earrings Haurchefant gifted her, and the warded pendant the Exarch gave her not long after her arrival on the First. Zefiris: 'Not at all. I'm glad you called. It's been...nice. Peaceful. And I said to you once before...I find I enjoy your company.' Zefiris: 'That was a very long time ago for you, though, wasn't it.' Zefiris gives G'raha a gentle look - it's the first time the subject of his ages-long quest has been broached between them. He answers her softly, his gaze reaching into the past. G'raha Tia: 'It was. Yet I never forgot.'

Under a light-filled sky, viewed from behind, the Exarch sprints at full tilt across the forecourt towards the Crystarium gates. Although he remains hooded and glamoured, we are afforded a privileged look at his face, and his eyes are fixed forward as he runs, the Tower and the city at his back. In voiceover, he reflects: Crystal Exarch: 'There was a moment, as I ran from the city to the garrison to meet you, where I allowed myself the indulgence of a dream.' Some of the Crystarium citizens look on in surprise as he passes by at pace - this is unexpected behaviour from their Lord. His eyes are bright with excitement, his expression eager, a hint of disbelief in his growing smile. Crystal Exarch: 'I was become giddy, light-headed; near overwhelmed by a bittersweet sense-memory of unfamiliar joy and unbridled hope.'
