So honored to receive the Kathleen Curtin Spirituality in Mission Award from the Ignatian Volunteer Corps (IVC) for my work in SpIrituality in Health. So grateful to all the people who have been on this journey. Especially meaningful to me was President Biden’s message to IVC and the awardees.

I was privileged to be installed as the Eugene Meyer Professor of Medicine. What an incredible honor for the work we do to advance interprofessional spiritual care. Grateful to those engaged in spiritual care, clinicians and chaplains bringing hope and healing to those we serve.
Incredible colleagues at University of Hong Kong where I was honored to present on spirituality and health, especially as related to compassion presence in clinical care.
Hard day today in this rapidly changing environment. Global pandemics are often followed but civil unrest. But we are not hopeless. We can do so much — not despair but hope. Let’s not repeat that history. Let’s unite as a global community fostering love, hope, and unity.
An immense privilege to serve our patients. Being present.
Absolutely. The privilege we have to serve our patients. 🙏🏻
Over the last two years I have been working with a small group of passionate colleagues to get a resolution in Spirituality and Health passed by the American Medical Association. AMA passed that resolution at the 2024 meeting. See more below.

Still enjoying the wonderful connections with my AAHPM colleagues. This conference was particularly meaningful as we all recommitted to being part of this very special and diverse community !

Our current health care system is not designed to provide quality care to all people.
It is designed to make huge profits for insurance & drug companies.
In that sense, the system is working very well.
But it is not working for the average American.
We need Medicare for All.

Excellent poster at AAHPM meeting. Notes that the need for training of clinicians. At GWish we offer the ISPEC curriculum to do just that. And we were instrumental in passing the AMA resolution recommending spirtuality and education.
Yes including all clinicians providing clinical spiritual care assessing for spiritual health and spiritual distress
Important plenary on how to exist in these challenging times. Krista Tippet and Lucas Johnson inspired us to focus on kindness and listen to our hearts as we navigate an ever changing landscape of our world.
I think of Dr. Payne often. What an amazing colleague. He is deeply missed

The most cited JAMA Health Forum essay for not hospice or end of life care. This was total surprise to me jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
Garbage in, Garbage out—Words of Caution on Big Data and Machine Learning in Medical Practice
This JAMA Forum discusses developments with machine learning and artificial intelligence and provides examples showing how humans are required in these processes to avoid errors in classification.
