I know the stories, and have had prior experiences, but my god @deutschebahn.com are truly hopeless. For the entire month I've not ridden a train that has gone on time, and multiple have just never shown up or just randomly cancelled stations mid-route. I love you Germany, please sort this out.

Massive respect to the Spanish fans, riders like Pello Bilbao above, and others who showed up and made their voices heard. Your peaceful protest has forced everyone to face the contradiction. Cycling deserves far better governance than this. The UCI can't pick and choose when ethics matter.

I'm in Cologne for work. We had Warntag today, which is an annual test of the alert systems. For me, a non-German speaker who had no pre-warning of this, it was extremely normal to have my phone just start blaring an alert tone and show up an alert message while air raid sirens started going off.

Great to be here at @gesis.org at the same time as my wonderful Canadian colleagues @philipmai.com & @gruzd.ca. The @qutdmrc.bsky.social is the Australian partner of the polidashboard.org an initiative of their @socialmedialab.ca. A wonderful tool for enhancing transparency of political advertising.

I feel a red line was crossed today, and it might be time for outlets like @betootaadvocate.bsky.social and others to reconsider how their satire works to normalise the antics of these conservative gun-nut caricatures from the deep north. This just isn't funny anymore.

And while I know Josh Bavas to be an incredibly fair and respected journalist, and it's good to see the press pack and his executives standing behind him, ultimately it shouldn't matter. Violence is never acceptable, no matter who the target is. Katter and his party owe him an unreserved apology.
antmandan.bsky.social
Bob Katter may enjoy cult-like meme status as a quirky political oddity, but it's clear that beneath the cowboy hat is a mean bully whose behaviour should never be excused as harmless eccentricity. His violent outburst today was an utter disgrace and he should be censured for it in parliament.

So @albomp.bsky.social reckons we can't "do policy on the run" when it comes to gambling ads, after years of reviews, inquiries, and expert consensus begging for action. But somehow it's fine to rush through contested laws that reshape the entire internet in under 6 months. The hypocrisy is wild.

Look what they did to Notepad. Shut the fuck up. This is Notepad. You are not welcome here. Oh yeah "Let me use Copilot for Notepad". "I'm going to sign into my account for Notepad". What the fuck are you talking about. It's Notepad.
Windows Notepad, the native simple text editor, now has formatting options and a Copilot button.

Ah yes, Europe, the land of stringent regulation… except when it comes to every other idiot ruining the vibe by chain-smoking through every meal or nice moment. To the hipsters who think it's an aesthetic: you don't look chic, you just smell like regret and tar.

Absolutely lucked out on my academic visit to Amsterdam this week by timing it with a once every 5 year mass sailing event. These tall ships are absolutely gorgeous, and there are about 60 of them that all sailed in together today.

Being in the UK this week means I've seen several variations of Lower Wafflington AFC vs Bishop's Piddle United on the pub TVs. It's baffling, because apparently there are 147 other cups, shields, plates, and vases happening at the same time, all in overlapping leagues that somehow share teams.

Hello, good morning, I am happy to share an opinion piece in The Spinoff that I wrote off of the back of a policy submission to the NZ Government's Education and Workforce Committee alongside a group of wonderful @qutdmrc.bsky.social colleagues. You can read it here thespinoff.co.nz/internet/13-...
Pretending the internet doesn’t exist won’t protect our young people from harm
Our inquiry into online harm should not follow the same rushed process that resulted in Australia's under-16 social media ban.

The best way to tackle the toxic cultures shaped by our legacy commercial media? Apparently, it's to steer kids off social media and right back into their arms. More betting ads, more booze, more body image pressure, more stale white males. Brilliant strategy, really. 🇦🇺🍔🎰🍻💸
antmandan.bsky.social
With fewer kids on YouTube, TikTok and Reels maybe they’ll go back to learning values from Married At First Sight and Sportsbet ads. Forget digital literacy, what our kids really need is more 5-minute ad breaks and reality shows where every woman is a stereotype and every bloke is named Trent.
antmandan.bsky.social
Thank god though. No more vertical videos, dance challenges, women's sport, alternative political viewpoints or relatable content. Just wholesome commercial TV: gambling ads, beer jingles, and 30-year-old men pretending to be 16. Australia's youth is saved.
