When I posted this quote on Facebook, I was suspended for three days for promoting hate speech against totalitarians. In Zuckerberg's view, that's something horrible.
Given the time needed for interpreting, especially for Trump's non-linear delivery (putting it nicely), this seems like a fairly short discussion that is likely to have left most major issues unresolved.
It's critical to remember who stations like Azattyk reach through their online stories and publications, not just among elites in Kyrgyzstan but Western scholars and journalists. And estimates of listeners to the Farsi service of RL are quite high. It had clearly not outlived its usefulness.

You’ve written the book on the silovoki and I keep wondering how far Putin can allow some in security services to go in carping at the military leadership through milbloggers and YouTubers. Some criticism and interagency tension is useful for Putin but at what point does it become destabilizing?
Lambasts Russian military leadership for its failures in Syria, Kursk, and elsewhere; says he is being fed the information on this from a source in the security services. Takeaway: he wants "rotation" of personnel, meaning a housecleaning. No direct criticism of Putin, of course, but seems implied.

Sympathetic to the argument but the one-party South didn’t eliminate competition within the party,especially at state level. The worst authoritarianism was local, with courthouse rings and domineering sheriffs.
I’m reminded of the Russian expression “You can’t understand Russia by reason (alone)” умом Россию не понять. I’m afraid the same can now be said about the US.

Your post on my feed followed immediately after a story on the millions of hours of lost sleep among Ukrainians. We are being bombarded by lies; they are being subjected to the sound and fury of live ordnance almost every night. Puts things in perspective.
Must read for those interested in Central Asia and Russia’s regional image. Kyrgyzstani respondents far more likely to lay blame for the war at the feet of Ukrainians rather than Russians and among Kyrgyzstanis attitudes vary by ethnolinguistic background, media use, and dependence on remittances.
