Lovely to see the cinnabar moth caterpillar feeding on the ragwort at BGS. The moth is named after the red mineral cinnabar because of the red patches on its predominantly black wings.

Andi Smith and Chris Bengt (BGS) travelled to the Philippines for Chris’s PhD fieldwork at Lake Bulusan, Sorsogon Province. The core material will shed light on phosphorus dynamics and the role volcanic eruptions play in fertilising the surrounding forests.
