That’s a wrap on classes for fall 2024! The headlines about the higher ed sector are often full of uncertainty and gloom, but this past semester has been another great reminder of how much I enjoy teaching - even at 8:30 on Monday mornings.
Nice to see the 2023 KCIS volume published - including my chapter on how shifts in security studies can improve academics’ engagement with security and conflict studies
Delighted to be at the KCIS conference today to present my research on quantum science and tech policy. #polisky
Many, many thanks to the reviewers on this one. A thought-provoking and challenging set of comments that pushed the manuscript to its best version.
Forthcoming at @IntRelationsJ - a rereading of Hans Morgenthau’s critique of scientism in “Scientific Man Versus Power Politics” and “Science:Servant or Master” in light of recent quantum approaches to international relations theory.
A fantastic day in Waterloo with the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) Digital Policy Hub for the capstone conference for this term. My first working paper in the CIGI DPH series will be released in the coming weeks - stay tuned!
Too kind! I’m excited to be back on campus to share this work.
I wrote a book!
Due out this June, “Weak Utopianism in Education” is the culmination of a multi-year project at the intersection of political theory and philosophy of education.

Walking past the majestic Theological Hall (where I taught my first tutorial class) on my way to the Queen’s Teaching Development Day 2023
Looking forward to the start of phase three of my postdoc project tomorrow! This term, I am partnering with a selection of “case study courses” to take a deep dive into student and instructor perceptions of assessment and evaluation techniques!

Thanks(?) I think that a lot of the review requests came out of my work on “emergency eLearning” during the first year of the pandemic.
During CV updating, I realized that I have now peer reviewed over 50 journal articles. Do we celebrate reviewing milestones?
It was especially popular in one course where a bunch of students had government summer job experience, because they shared first-hand examples about other examples of “insider language”
Late to the party on this post, but I assign Cohn’s “Sex and Death in the Rational World of Defence Intellectuals” because the article has a number of different entry points for students in terms of content (language, gender, rationality, nukes, peace, etc etc).
I had enough large ones for two batches of pizza sauce, but with the wild weather I’ve had a LOT of splitting with the larger tomatoes this summer.
First post on the new platform is a good news story - it’s been a great summer for cherry tomatoes!
