🐌 Today's #InvasiveAlienSpecies is Cipangopaludina chinensis, the Chinese Mystery Snail.
🟢 It can outcompete many native snails, alter water quality and algae diversity, and act as a potential parasite host.
⚪ There are also concerns about it clogging water pipes and attacking fish eggs.

Herbaria aren’t dusty cupboards full of dead plants. They’re global data engines for AI, genomics & conservation.

Our new paper argues: digitisation ≠ replacement. Physical + digital collections together are the future.

🦫 The next #InvasiveAlienSpecies of Union concern is the Castor canadensis, or the American Beaver.
🌿 It directly competes with the native European beaver, occupying the same ecological niche.
🟤 With its higher reproduction rate, it increases the risk of extinction for the native beaver species.

🏵️ Today's #InvasiveAlienSpecies is Broussonetia papyrifera, the Paper Mulberry.
🌲 This plant is a swift coloniser of disturbed areas, including forests.
🍂 It can form extensive, dense stands through spreading root systems, and its pollen is highly allergenic.
