What this means for the TJ process is unclear at this stage. One thing’s for sure though - it’s another disappointing delay for the victims and survivors who desperately need their right to the truth to be upheld.

It seems that after months of promise that Nepal’s transitional justice process might be moving forward, yesterday the committee established to appoint commissioners to the TRC and Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Political Disappearances revealed it had not been able to agree on a new TRC chair.

The shortlist for Nepal’s two transitional justice commissions has been released. Perhaps unsurprisingly, questions are being raised about the appointment process and how well qualified the candidates are. Will be interesting to see who is appointed.
