Over 95% votes now counted. Babis’s ANO wins over a third of the vote. Some form of coalition with ANO at the helm likely.

Sean, just sent you a WhatsApp message.

Lots of interesting stories beyond the immediate headlines: Pirates crossing the threshold again; Communist led Stacilo currently below the threshold; and Babis’s most likely coalition partner, the Motorists crossing the threshold.
timhaughton.bsky.social
Spolu likely to increase share of its vote as the bigger settlements still to declare. Babis’s ANO will clearly be the largest party, but may struggle to form a coalition with a majority in parliament.

2/3 votes counted in Czech elections. 🧵🧵

What is the best article length account explaining the outcome of the 2024 UK general election that draws on theories of voting behaviour? Would like a suggestion to assign to my students. Thanks. Self-nominations welcome! @timbale.bsky.social @drjennings.bsky.social @robfordmancs.bsky.social

Name changes and parties. The number of times former Slovak PM Igor Matovic has changed the name of his party is striking ….

There is so much to agree with @catherinedevries.bsky.social including, “Academia trains us to write for a test … But the real work is writing to be understood. A strong voice isn’t about dazzling the gatekeepers. It’s about building a path, connecting the dots, and making our argument matter.”

Voice is one of the most talked-about, and least explained, aspects of academic writing.

We’re told to “find it,” but rarely taught how to build it.

I wrote up some reflections here:

A 🧵 about why so much academic writing feels voiceless & what to do about it.

Talk of #NewParties in many countries at the moment. From Zarah Sultana to Elon Musk (and many points in between), I would humbly suggest those considering creating new parties and those seeking to understand the challenges should consider reading #TheNewPartyChallenge global.oup.com/academic/pro...

Tomorrow marks the 9th anniversary of Britain’s EU referendum. Students and international friends often ask me how and why did #Brexit happen? I tried to address that in a review article published a few years ago. Part of it comes down to 3 slogans and 9 words: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
