NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

CBS reporter Edward R. Murrow embodied what a journalist should be: someone who holds power to account instead of capitulating to it.

Over 70 years later, his segment denouncing Joe McCarthy’s congressional witch hunts rings truer than ever.

The mainstream media loves making it seam like dysfunction in Washington is coming from both parties.

Hello?

Much of the GOP no longer accepts the rule of law, or the norms of democracy, or the legitimacy of the opposing party.

Enough of the false equivalence.

Funny how resistance to AI in public space is described as "vandalism," but outright theft of the work of writers/artists is treated as an acceptable practice in the name of the technology's dubious claims to instrumentality and value.

It’s a girl for Naserian! As has become tradition among our ex-orphans, the proud mum returned ‘home’ this weekend to introduce her brand new daughter to the people who raised her. The special name we have chosen for Naserian's little girl: Nyika, which means bush/wilderness in Swahili.

Problems with pharma don't mean that quackery works.

Problems in aircraft design don’t mean that magic carpets can actually fly.

"State Terror: A brief guide for Americans"
Revisiting a piece I wrote in April 2025
"In the history of state terror, the escape from law into coercion takes three forms... the leader principle; the state of exception; and the zone of statelessness."

Congress is the branch of government that makes laws. The chief executive wielding a sharpie and an executive order make a photo op, not a law.
