Sweden hasn't even concluded that it will enter into a partnership for the next gen combat aircraft. The decision on buy / make / collaborate is due later this year.
The behaviour of the potential European partners and the US government is making going it alone look more attractive!

Tyskarnas synpunkt om en möjlig samarbete är lite intressant. De antar att Sverige skulle vilja absolut gå in i en utvecklingssamarbete med något större land.

Schweden als "ein" Partner waere sicherlich plausibel fuer einen anderen Weg. Nur denke ich nicht, dass Deutschland und Schweden zusammen in der Lage sind, das gesamte Projekt allein zu schultern. Weitere Partner sind dann allerdings schnell Mangelware.

It also depends what target you're thinking about. 40mm + will make nice holes in a BTR or BMP but isn't much use against fortifications where weight of explosive matters. If you're going up against trench systems all that extra armour weight probably doesn't help either.

The other reason for 40mm was of course huge stocks of unused barrels and 40mm ammo.

Amusingly one of the reasons for using 40mm on the Strf9040 was that it could do most of the job of the Ikv91. 35mm sits in the sand boat of being able to penetrate russian IFVs at long range.
It would be ironic if CV90 operators start buying new Ikv type vehicles.
