Primary habitat, the PNW, though they love all grey areas; prone to flights of fancy; gender indeterminate; inordinately fond of the telly, comics, and lost causes.

Seeing so many ppl posting "trans rights are human rights" is heartening. Also made me aware some ppl don't know which rights are unprotected or explicitly denied.

If you're unsure or talking w/ folks who are, lgbtmap.org provides a detailed overview by state and issue.

GOP insanity is boundless. They want Dems to be blamed for the shutdown, but actions are high visibility opportunities for the Rs to show they don't care who gets hurt.

Bringing you an update on the National Guard from my run yesterday.
Way to go, Portland!

Signed,

your little sister Eugene
this made me have good feelings. remember those?
Shoutout to the Boomers, really showing everybody else up in 2025
Love it myself. If I were ever thinking of living in a major city again, I'd go back.
It'd kinda nice when things like this happen to me, getting to think I'm a responsible adult. But the panic erases the win, unfortunately.
Adequately?! More than! But statement earrings are a nice touch.

If you hadn't mentioned your hair, I wouldn't have noticed anything at all.
It's devilishly hard. Plus books don't use credits, just add to your library. Possible exceptions are "free" books in a series to hook you. I am ok reading those if I am going to go for others in the series, but not sure the status.

Also, scroll the "discover" page, you can click to see Plus only.
Thanks, sounds like a great alternative!
Best to you all in Portland. Give her that happy weirdness that we love you for.
Kristi Noem is in PDX today.
She brings the cameras w/ her and is desperate to incite Americans to do things she can film and edit into propaganda vids.
Do not give her what she wants.
The regime is frantic to manufacture a riot. Do not give them what they want.
So, not surprising, but well-hidden. Indie authors are getting screwed by Audible on royalties.

Short version: DO NOT listen to Plus category books. They're stealing money from non-exclusive authors and giving it to Plus catalog authors.

Excellent point. I'm in Eugene, but if I see them, I'll do that.
Good question. I checked, and ME uses ranked choice if no one has a plurality. He only got 50.6% in 24. Whether a progressive would fare better, tho, IDK. Maybe, if ppl thought there was little diff btw the D and R. OTOH, the diff might prove too much, and needing Rs would explain his crossover.
Given it was thrown out in OR, actually it strengthened the TRO, hopefully the same'll will happen in IL.

The argument for the Portland deployment was "well, they're already federalized," said over and over. The judge was scathing.
If she's honest about what happened writing it, the way it goes on and on, seems she in bad shape. Deeply engrained paranoias and biases tend to surface at times like that. So I'm inclined to think it's her mental state rather than "look, I'm special." But, yeah, that may be too kind.

Found a video summary of the story. JFC. There's no data and the WaPo talking heads are unbelievable.

It's behind a paywall, so I'm unable to see - when they say "some," do they actually have numbers from a reliable source? Sounds like the sort of thing that would be anecdotal or based in Trump numbers.

A @sciam.bsky.social story on the cognitive benefits of hand-annotating books inspired my latest newsletter on maps, monsters, and making sense of Sir Walter Ralegh's "Brief and True History of Guiana" (1596).

I wonder, tho. It's pretty common for people to believe that others would act in a way that they find negative, or that situations outside of theirs are more negative. My hunch is that 1 in 4 number is higher than the actual number.
