Been on a fantasy spree for YEARS now. Apart from Maria Just Maria and a few other books, I have not read anything non-fantasy in a while. The last one I read was Broken Empire trilogy. Anyone has recommendations that are similar ?

(First Law, Malazan etc have been devoured already)

Ah so I was in a situation where they didn’t keep distance - I was with a person who was melanin challenged and so it became acceptable to talk to me. Edward Said would’ve laughed derisively at some of those things.

Having spent most of 2023-2024 watching operas, I’d say this. I’d much rather hangout with the football fans than with the snobby assholes I saw at the opera houses. But that is never a reason to stop liking it, so I keep going back 😤. One of these days, I’ll do it in a lungi.

Isn’t this completely normal and expected? When I speak to Malaysians I seamlessly switch to a different variant of English. When I talk to Germans I’ve to speak slower and enunciate in a more German fashion (and so on). Heck I do this with Malayalam, and Kerala is tiny.

Ah apologies, I misunderstood your comment. This is partially that but he tries to expand not just the private education part. He uses his experiences to establish an all too familiar canvas. Seemed relatable to me. Uncomfortable too.

I watched it recently - and the stupid romance bit aside, what I really liked was that last bit about newspapers. People KNEW. They always did.

I am not surprised. Majority of Indian content on the internet have caste biases. Majority of Indian GenAI users also display a caste-biased behavior.

My thoughts after reading it was how similar the experiences are in the south also. Ask any middle/lower income class Dalit/Muslim person. Our experiences aren't as physical - like not having access to water, but the social discrimination is alive and well.

I think people with an Indian identity should read "Meet the savarnas". There's lots to critique and disagree - but it is still really worth reading. The exposition of privilege is so raw, and eye opening in some places.

Tech bros and govt will have you believe that privacy is about protecting data from accessed by wrong hands and so on. While it is that but more importantly it is about protection against creation of such data in itself.

Lot of data that gets generated honestly should cease to exist immediately.

Well this very drunk fellow decided that he has enough of these "Europeans", and decided to hangout with his American homie. Which was ..me. He was certain that I'm some black dude from the US, but I told him that while that is awesome, I'm not. I'm just south Indian :D.
