It's not...uncommon? it depends on how broad your definition of it is. It isn't too uncommon to have a timing gated defensive thing to take turns back.

Effectively you can't use it to resolve and find targets, you need to have already shot one with it to have the duration to figure out where enemies are. sort of fights itself on that.
