@skepchick.org Hello, Rebecca. I’ve been a listener since the Skeptics Guide days. The RIF actions at the CDC has been getting some press but I don’t think enough people are talking about how the Office of Science was included, which includes the research library.

Furlough day 14, post-RIF 4: I keep thinking about quarantine and how I went online from 7-3:30 every weekday to find something to work on to make my agency better. No slacking off. I felt better when I was productive, even if not directed to or noticed. Whar a slap in the face. #governmentshutdown

Per CDC source: At internal leadership meeting this afternoon, it was shared that 1,257 people were RIF'd at CDC. Number may not be final. Apparently, chief of staff was unaware that RIFs were going to occur so not clear who is making decisions. (Short 🧵)

HHS has eliminated EVERY SINGLE SAFEGUARD FOR DATA PROTECTION AT CDC. Giving data to CDC is no longer safe and puts your residents at risk.

Unless and until all CDC’s data protections are restored you should consider CDC a bad actor.

I was only a kid living on an Army base when BRAC (base realignment and closure) and the associated RIF (reduction in force) happened, but I know these things usually take years of careful discussion and planing.
