Look at this beautiful plot from Taylor (1961)
basically incomprehensible plot of many squares in a grid with scattered points and regression lines for the points that appear to be in lines

Every working-age American just gave an average of $94 to Argentina and lost infectious disease surveillance services simultaneously

“We can give $20 billion to Argentina but we can’t afford the CDC’s measles experts” is a hell of an argument

Like literally trying to hurt people 💔

So many amazing people who gave us all so much 💔💔💔

I so profoundly hope it’s not *that* that they hate.

I have known a lot of public servants and every single one of them was driven - at least in part - by selfless care for our collective good.

BREAKING: Friday night massacre underway at CDC. Doznes of "disease detectives," high-level scientists, entire Washington staff and editors of the MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) have all been RIFed and received the following notice:

We are going to feel these effects for decades in the best case. It’s just so dark. ❤️💔

Could they just hate scientists??? (But actually I sadly think it’s probably #3. Chilling.)

I totally agree childbearing and care is always costlier than not - but wouldn’t you rather daycare (and everything else kids need) were free instead of people without kids being specifically taxed? It seems to me that targeting anyone based on their reproduction is dangerous…

Ok, I've got some about those city people just generally being bad neighbors, too, I guess.
amandajean.bsky.social
All my cancelable takes are about city people moving to beautiful places and getting pissed about dogs.
amandajean.bsky.social
Nudge culture (and American tax policy in general) have normalized some way not ok stuff and it's time to start calling it out. Because (((wow)))
amandajean.bsky.social
It should be *so* embarrassing to try to change other people's reproductive lives. Like embarrassing to an utterly paralyzing degree.

There are ways to value care work that aren't horrifyingly creepy and selfish. Why is this so hard?

I don't know who that weird William F Buckley-almost named guy is but honey hell what failure led to that.

Oh, goody, look who gets to be thrown under the bus.

"As the political scientist Adam Przeworski points out, Polish pro-democracy forces won only when they agreed to leave aside their bitter divisions over abortion until after they had succeeded."

I'm not sure it's middlebrow intellectualism in my case. Kinda feels more like consumerism. But v similar.

It’s so great! I told several people about it today as an example of why universities are important. Thank you for your work!

FWIW many of the longest running orgs have largely or essentially stopped advocacy in the past 15 years on the abortion rights side

but on the other side, too. they're FIGHTING.
